Bad value for an elite scorer.

Hp1, I've grown to respect your posts so I wonder what would be better value for a guy like Panarin if indeed the Hawks cannot re-sign him? Edmonton traded an established scorer in Hall to Jersey straightup for Larsson, a top 4 RHD that they needed. Most everybody seems to think the Oilers got hosed in that trade. Yet some clarity was made by trading from a strength to help build up a weakness. I think it was a good hockey trade myself. Panarin just might be better than Hall, even though he's only played in the League one season (or two by next summer). I would hope the Hawks could net a top six LWer and a top 4 dman, both NHL ready. Is Bowman capable of landing a return like this? (I would like to think he's due!!).

Johansson is pretty good but the real problem with this trade is that why is Chi making it? They're essentially giving Panarin's money to Mojo and Beagle. Why not just keep Panarin and sign him? If Panarin is traded and seeing what Chicago situation is at currently, they are asking for an top end prospect and pick in return. Not more salary. From Washington it would be more like Vrana, Bowey and a 1st rounder. Washington gets an elite scorer while Chicago gets very good prospects in Vrana and Bowey plus a 1st rounder. Not too mention the 6-7M in cap relief they don't need to spend anymore.

Four rookie (or nearly as such, depending on what happens this year) forwards, and a defense that will get its ass kicked up and down the ice? Cue the Q meltdown...

Also, sorry, the Panarin trade is awful, and Panik will never make north of a million with a Hawks team that has to pay the wonder twins 10.5 a pop.

Nope. CBJ Would make a better trade for Panarin. How about:

    CBJ gets: Panarin

Chicago gets: Milano, Atkinson, and a 1st round pick (lottery protected)

    That's nice to here. Thanks!
EDM got robbed on that trade when you look at it from a Jersey point of view (and almost any other point of view). But look at EDM depth down the middle and all of the prospects they have at center. They needed a RHD and spent something they are loaded on to get something they aren't.
Johansson isn't an elite scorer but is a solid player and Beagle is OK. The draft pick is a late rounder.
Panarin is worth a ton as a for sure top 20 scorer in the NHL. He won't get Tarasanko money unless he somehow tops last season. And even at that its unlikely Bowman pays Tarasanko money. Panarin is a RFA so he will have to go to arbitration and even then likely won't win an arbitration for north of 7 mil. So the only other thing is an offer sheet and with that the Hawks receive a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at least. But nobody will be able to offer sheet a 7 million dollar player except for budget teams and none of them will do that. So if they trade him they will get two Johanssons in return
