Thornton and Marleau want a cup
Jonathan Toews will never, EVER, suit up on the same squad as Joe Thornton. Not to mention Jumbo Joe and Marleau will never play for this little, no matter how badly they want a cup... Scott Darling doesn't take $800k and stay in Chicago, he'll find a gig somewhere else. I don't think Kempny stays for that little either.
All that aside, I literally had to check your math a few times, because it seemed like sorcery that it was possible... Then I realized you didn't account for bonuses, which will be met this year, I am sure of that. But there's another major problem: even if somehow the prior year's bonus impact on the cap was only $750,000... No cap space to make a call up when someone inevitably gets hurt. And they have to operate with some kind of space for injuries.

Because the Hawks need to be the butt of EVERY JOKE in the NHL for having two Kanes that can't keep their noses clean? Hell no.
Plus, Big Hoss still has a lot in the tank, don't let one bad year for him at #19, because they lost Saad, make you think he's done. He's far from done.

Gotta agree with Dirty D, doesn't make a **** hill of sense for the Flyers to have, what, potentially 10+ tied up in net minders? No way.
However, goaltending disagreements aside, this is going to be such a dangerous ******* team next year...

If Nashville wants to enter win now mode.
Jarnkrok and Ekholm won't get you Giordano, unless Brian Burke is high as **** when he takes the phone call. However, I do think that if Nashville got Giordano to put with PK, their blue line would be INSANE, and it would make a huge difference in that team's performance.
But Nashville needs better depth at C, and Ryan Johansen was NOT the answer. He'll be a perennial dud. He just doesn't have the level of compete that Mike Fisher does, I'd move Fisher up with Forsberg and Neal (unless Fisher is slowing down or something).

I'd take Mash out of the equation here, keep the cap space a shade over a million for a call up. But I have to wonder if Tanguay has anything at all left in the tank...

w/ Vesey
This is pretty good, chitownfan, however I would still change a few things. Or at least attempt to...
I think even if Vesey signs, you still throw an offer to Jiri Hudler. He may have made 4 last year, but he may be willing to entertain a smaller figure, say 1.75 for 1 year, with the Hawks to have a good run and then sign his final contract for a few more years at a little more money elsewhere. He'd probably take it, considering he is currently waiting for the Hawks before he makes his move.
If Hudler bites, you put him on the third line with Schmaltz (who projects much closer to being TT's successor than anyone else) and Panik, and if Vesey has some growing pains or doesn't quote work out with Toews and Hossa, you can swap them out and still have a quality linemate for 19&81. I would also move Krugs down to his 4th line duties with Desi and Tootoo, **** can Mash, and keep Moose up as the 13th warrior.

2018-19 outlook
Here's my biggest issue with this... You are trying to make an 18-19 season fit into this year's salary cap figure, which is asinine. And don't be surprised if Marian Hossa is still skating and playing better than a lot of others you have signed here, like McNeil (who I doubt will even be around after this year) and Panik. Hossa may have had an off year, and yes he's getting old, but he is FAR from done.
Why, on god's green earth, would you even CONSIDER continuing to give Mash contracts? He sucks. He's useless. He can't even Fucking enforce. If the universe is fair, Tootoo see's Mash shuttled down to Rockford and may he never come back.
I understand your desire to give Gus a big contract. He started out last year amazingly well. Then god knows what happened, and he became afraid of his own shadow. I don't think he plays much at all this year in Chicago, with Rozy being resigned to give Kempny a language friend, and TVR still around. So Gus will have to mount a monumental comeback season, and start looking better than one Nick Leddy looked in his second year, and he probably won't even sniff more than 10 games.
Also, WALaxer19 is absolutely correct, Panarin is going to get north of 7 million, at least.

I've got to disagree with you here, JFo. We've seen how often players are willing to take less to play with a team that knows how to win. After some more consideration, I think that 1.5 is probably too low, I think you can Mash to the minors, and make Hudler's offer 2, and I think like Brad Richards two years ago, he'll jump on it. Win a cup, sign a new contract worth more for your last few years.
Of course all of that assumes they win, and they didn't do such a good job of that last year, did they?

Not to mention all but ensuring having to deal Panarin away due to cap constraints.
Maybe the white knight in shining armor will come along (Arizona) and save the day by taking the Hossa contract for next to nothing so the Hawks can drive the money truck up to Panarin's door.</i></div></div>
I'm actually of the opinion that Hossa is far from done, he just had a bunk year last season. The revolving door of LWs, most of which could not hope to use the skill Saad had in setting Hossa's quick release bomb up from his areas, combined with the exhaustion most of the core was clearly playing with, took a toll. He'll have a much better season this year.

This lineup would be great, and pretty responsible. Well, who the hell knows about Tootoo, he may be a shitshow, but then you just can him for someone else anyway. I think Schmaltz learns well on the job, so I approve.
