Blackwood Follow-Up
San Jose is going to be really reluctant to trade Ferraro. Along with Hertl he's the heart of the team, and culture matters in a rebuild. Trading Ferraro is going to have an outsized effect on morale/culture in the room and that's bad for developing guys like Eklund, Zetterlund, Emberson etc. Its one thing to trade aging vets like Burns and Karlsson, but Ferraro is only 25. It would send a bad message to the rest of the guys in the locker room in my opinion, so you really only do it for a massive overpayment. A 2nd, and the nebulous value of "what we might get" for Pesce isn't going to be enough I think. Especially not with Blackwood thrown in as well.

D CHANGE due to rumors
The Sharks wouldn't do that even without Ferraro included. Why give up a 2nd round pick (potential 1st) for a 33 yo who doesn't fit the rebuild, an ok prospect playing in the ECHL and two 5ths? I'd rather just keep the pick, hope NJ makes the conference finals and take a shot at drafting someone better than Voit.

Vlasic for Armia
Sharks don't need cap relief by trading Vlasic. We have like 34m in space next year even with him on the books and a buyout this summer or next would save more space than this deal would when you take into account Armia coming back.
Joel Armia probably isn't going to be a apart of the Sharks future anymore than Vlasic is really going to be a part of Montreal's long term future. This deal doesn't really do anything for SJ so we'd essentially be tying up a retention slot for 3 years for nothing. Even talking conservatively that slot could be used to bring back 2 or 3 picks over that time, which would be better for us than Armia.

Agree about SJ. Tying up the last retention slot for 3 years is a non starter

Stamkos and duclair
Brodzinski doesn't have any value to San Jose. The Sharks would probably try to extend Duclair if all that's coming back is a 3rd (he seems to like it here and is fitting in great with the young team personality wise), and we better be using our last retention slot for something better than a 4th.

The Sharks aren't going to pay for a rental goaltender. If we were to trade Kahk or Blackwood then Samsonov might be possible, but in any trade you'd be paying us to take him off your hands, not the other way around.

Why are the Sharks taking Campbell for free and giving away Blackwood for nothing? Hanifin is a good player, but he's a UFA and the last thing the Sharks need right now are rentals.

A 1st and a 3rd would be the minimum for taking on that Campbell contract, so the Sharks aren't going to throw Blackwood in for free.

Sharks likely wont tie up their final retention slot for 3 years. Any deal would have to pay for Ferraro AND at least match everything we could do with that slot over the next 3 seasons.

Moves at TDL
I'd be shocked if the Sharks use their last retention slot on anything other than rentals for the next few years. Also, in this scenario we'd be tying it up for 4 years for a bottom six player, a 3rd (after the Grzelcyk trade), a 5th and a 7th.
Just looking at this season, if Hoffman keeps getting his game back we could use it on a trade with him and probably get a 3rd back easy (without the slot his cap hit is probably not tradeable). There are plenty of other realistic trade scenarios too where teams will pay a premium to squeeze someone under their cap. Salary retention could easily be the difference between a 2nd and 1st in some trades. Multiply that by the next three seasons too and you can see how much of a waste it would be for SJ to tie up that valuable slot.
This deal doesn't come close to paying for 4 years of retention (let alone the $16m) and that doesn't even account for Couture's value, however low you think that might be.

The Sharks only have one remaining retention slot. They might use it on Duclair if he has a bounce back season, but not likely for just a 3rd/5th in return. Duclair at 3m could end up being cheap enough to move without the retention slot meaning the Sharks could use it in a more lucrative deal.

Sharks aren't likely to use their last retention slot on a deal with such a weak return.
Also personally I'd keep Nieto over Lindblom. Lindblom is fine but super over paid and Nieto is a great PKer/ locker room guy who had as many points in 45 games with the Sharks last year as Lindblom did in 70+.

Not sure any team is going to want to tie up a retention slot for two full years for only a 4th coming back. Anaheim maybe since I think they have all their slots available, but San Jose only has one left for the next two years.

Carpenter will probably be 1C I think and Laroque and Pulli might still be nursing injuries, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd guess that Ethan Frisch and Kinal get into the lineup if they are out. Maybe Guryev over Kinal.

Why would Vlasic veto it?
Does he like losing every 2nd night just so the Sharks can draft a player he will never play with at the top of the 24 draft?</div></div>
Wiesblatt is definitely not our top prospect in the AHL. Gushchin, Robbins and maybe even Cardwell and Coe are ahead of him, and that's just forwards. I like Ozzy and hope he figures it out this year, but last year he was a borderline AHL/ECHL player who has yet to find his scoring touch at the professional level. Even still the Sharks aren't going to throw him away just to try and free up cap space that they don't need.
To be honest I don't think there are any assets that the Sharks would be willing to trade (young talent/picks) that would make another team think taking on the Vlasic contract was worth it. There's also no pressing need to free up cap. We'll just end up waiting it out, and we have $36m in cap space next year even with Vlasic on the books so I think we're fine there.

Boqvist fits a need yes, but a conditional 1st and a 4th is definitely too much. Even our own 2nd in 2024 is going to be so high that that its basically a low 1st so that also seems a bit rich for Boqvist.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Does anyone know if players who are on a teams Reserve list are eligible to play in preseason?
I know Musty made the cut to stick with the next round of guys at training camp, but idk if he's able to play in any games until he's officially signed. I would assume not, but then again Cassels played last game and he's signed to an AHL deal with the Cuda, not the sharks</div></div>
Per Sheng Peng Musty is skating in a no-contact jersey and has a day-to-day upper body injury. He also mentioned that it might keep him from playing in the preseason so my guess then is that yes he would be eligible if he wasn't hurt.

Admittedly I haven't watched Joseph much, but the Sharks aren't really looking for depth/3rd liners. We in fact have too many 3rd/4th liners. Zetterlund/Labanc/Hoffman and maybe Zadina are already likely wingers for the 3rd line this year, with maybe Lindblom and Kunin on the 4th.
I just can't see a rebuilding team taking on an almost 3m cap hit over 3 years for free for someone likely to play in bottom of the lineup.
