No deal, too many LHD as it is and Armia's deal is up sooner

Even at half-retained, Vlasic has a bad contract and has uninspired play which is on the books for another 2 years (when he's almost 39). Even if you got a second team to take another half he'd have to go somewhere where you know he'd find some element of his past game. Not sure I see a fit, my guess is Ferraro is the one who is in play right now.

I feel like both teams decline, we don’t need mid wingers we have a lot of young guys coming up, this would be a log jam

Sharks don't need cap relief by trading Vlasic. We have like 34m in space next year even with him on the books and a buyout this summer or next would save more space than this deal would when you take into account Armia coming back.

Joel Armia probably isn't going to be a apart of the Sharks future anymore than Vlasic is really going to be a part of Montreal's long term future. This deal doesn't really do anything for SJ so we'd essentially be tying up a retention slot for 3 years for nothing. Even talking conservatively that slot could be used to bring back 2 or 3 picks over that time, which would be better for us than Armia.

Montreal doesn't have room for Vlasic, Armia doesn't have the same trade protections, fills a spot better and is done earlier. They easily decline.

Not that San Jose should tie up all their retention spots until the 2025 without getting assets.

Vlasic is literally, no hyperbole, the worst contract in the league. Its not even close. The only way to move him, realistically, is if SJ massively incentivized it, which no sane GM would do so it might as well be impossible.

I would take any other contract in the league over his. Huberdeau, Anderson, Nurse, Campbell, Gallagher, etc

Vlasic is not an NHL'er anymore. He's literally only still there because his contract is buyout proof and a rebuilding SJ team may as well get the veteran leadership from Vlasic if they are going to still have to pay him. Its not like they have oodles of young Dmen to take his place either so at this point might as well keep him for now.

...but make no mistake, he's is truly the worst contract in the league. Armia would be a massive upgrade in talent and cap saving and i'm not saying Armia is anything special at all either but I'd much rather him than Vlasic.

This proposed trade is a good idea in theory but matthias hit the nail on the head here.
