Thread: Trade comparables: A real thing or no?
I voted no: I think the idea of trade comparables starts and stops with the motion of precedence. All its existence does for us is establish context in a trade for us behind screens, not those in NHL front offices. Consider you wanted to create a "fresh" trade of which it's not one of the popular trades that makes its rounds in AGM. You find an instance of precedence in a prior trade. The outcomes are as follows:

1. You end up overvaluing the other team's player and members of your own fanbase present arguments against trading surplus value.
2. The deal is fair and the trade is accepted into the routine "lexicon" of rigamarole trades.
3. You have undervalued the player and the trading fanbase will politely inform you that your third-grade education levels may not be enough to get by in high society.

In any outcome all precedence does in our bubble is elicit <em>approximate</em> player values. There is no mathematical formula for a fair trade. It's why we're constantly blindsided by the moves made by actual NHL managers.

Others have mentioned it but they exist wholly as a good starting point. Prospect assessments change year-over-year. Draft pick values are not concrete. Player terms will either inflate or deflate a player with nearly unpredictable variance.

Any trade not made in the past 5 seasons should be dismissed outright. The game has inherently changed in that span of time.

sorry but this is the kinda idiotic ignorance (not calling you directly an idiot) that has made covid last so long.

I am not hard one way or the other either (if it matters i literally dont vote, i find both sides intolerable) ; i agree there are so many dumb ****ing rules created or weird rules that make no sense.

but to say covid isnt a problem is an embarrassing statement. yeha maybe you and I may be fine, or maybe you may die and i wont (vice versa) or maybe I kill your mom cause I gave you covid. or maybe nothing. we dont know until it happens.. the problem is that people (and people who use this comment that you just said) are being fed misinfo from an idiotic group of people (and many people who arent dumb but lodged into this group) and then they take the fact that many people can easily get through COVID and assume "well this was easy so why the **** is everyone else scared". Which then you impose your beliefs and views on people who are scared because you arent scared by going into private places with rules and disobeying them on purpose.

the following examples are the exact same thing. "youre opressing us" and then walking into a store without a mask and causing arguments (after going to multiple 1000+ meet ups) - which is in turn forcing the danger of covid on people who actually may have risk of death from covid or people they know/ interact with who can die. So you arguing for "freedom" is actually not only harming the freedom of others but putting others at harm.

Yes some of the rules are an annoyance. There are alot of logical people who are antivax or anti mask or anti whatever that are quite smart and you can have logical and great conversations with; and provide ideas that I have found some insanely smart sense in. I work in sports/fitness and Ive had some great discussions with people of differing and similar views. but those people are buried by "John Smith, 54, white, Klan supporter" who has gathered 10k people to spread similar but much stupider messages.

im not scared of covid, im living my life like there isnt covid, the way i believe i should. but that doesnt mean i walk around maskless and **** and whine and force my views on people who see things differently. Im friends with people who are anti vax (but dont make an ass of themselves) - and they dont support a majority of the idiotic **** you see from these "freedom" movements. they support the message but not the method of which thousands of people go around "looking for a fight".
