Haha good luck. That package doesn’t come close to both and not even close to getting Giroux retained

Claim him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hero9154</b></div><div>What changed for him since last season? Last year if I recalled correctly he played decently, what happened this year?</div></div>
He isn't suited for the 4th line. He's a decent complimentary player when he plays with skilled players. Last year he was close to a PPG for 20 games when he played with Lindholm and Toffoli. This year he mostly played with Greer, Dube, and Duehr.
The thing about Ruzicka is that he has trouble playing with a ton of energy when he plays on the 4th line and is only getting 8–10 mins a night. In fact, most of the players playing on the 4th line for Huska struggled this season, mostly because they barely get any play time.

Raiding the flames
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>As a fan of both teams... wow, this is a terrible trade for NYR. NYR don't have to change anything at D. If there was any rumor between the two, it had to be for Lindholm. It makes no sense to swap Schneider for Tanev.
Looking at the supporting cast, Bonino and Gustaffsson (outside of his god awful turnover yesterday, but it happens) have been solid. Bonino is definitely meant to be the 4C, it's a temporary problem at the 3C position, that could probably be solved by putting Brodzinski there instead. It's not worth throwing the future away for this. Rose is a decent temporary upgrade at 3C, but Bonino is a much better 4C than he would be after Chytil heals up. Duher looked good last year, but he can't even crack the lineup full time in CGY this year, what makes you think he can make the roster full time in NYR?
I really don't get this one.</div></div>
No one does, except the poster.

Finding the finishing move
What if MTL paid the price to get Knight?
Petry & Allen (both 50% retained) and a first rd pick for Knight.
FLA gets a veteran backup goalie thag is affordable, Petry at 2.34M for 2 yrs, and a 1st rd pick that they could use either at the draft, or at the trade deadline.
If FLA uses that 1st at the deadline, they might end up trading a goalie for 3 short term assets for a cup run.
MTL gives up two pieces that are not part of the long term solution, and potentially get a franchise goalie.
A tandem of Monty & Knight could be a dandy for a long time.

Edmonton declines. Ceci is their hard-minutes 1RD on a cheap contract, why would they trade him for a 5th?

Wow, that San Jose trade is brutal. What do they get out of this? The islanders get Nylander and Murray is buried in San Jose, which means San Jose is retaining over 7MM to get "some picks or prospects" from the islanders.
Classic leaf's trade: everyone retains money to make it work for the Leafs without any consideration as to why another team would benefit.

I can join on the Schwartz hating but on the other hand he was one of our best forwards in the playoffs for all of the little things he did. My guess is Kartye floats between the teams this year.

While STL is getting a second buyout window, Scandella doesn't make 4mil to be bought out, and really none of the other buyout candidates would make sense, so this is likely going to be the starting lineup. This is part of the problem when you give your whole somewhat mediocre dcorps NTC/M-NTCs haha...</div></div>
You’re absolutely right. I wouldn’t give up an asset, maybe he’d be wanted at half retention. But regardless, I’d like to see Perunovich on the 3rd pairing and QB of the 2nd PP unit. If we run 8 defense, I want the starting 5 to be Parayko, Faulk, Krug, Leddy, and Perunovich. The other 3 can rotate (Scandella, Bortuzzo, and Rosen. Tucker to the TBirds), while we ride the hot hand. We can worry about making changes next off-season when we have more cap flexibility and 1 less year of term on some contracts we want to move.

I agree entirely that the wing is a bit clogged, and see that the left side is the main concern for congestion issues. As a Schwartz hater, I wonder if he's on the chopping block because of his contract price and term as well as the fact that his roster spot is in really high demand for the team. IMO the best options are 1, what u mentioned above with Kartye being sent down, or 2, Schwartz buyout/trade.
I'd wanna see something like this if Schwartz is bought out/traded:
Kartye-Beniers-Burakovsky
McCann-Wright/Wennberg-Eberle
Tolvanen-Gourde-Bjorkstrand
Tanev-Bellmare/Wennberg-Yamamoto
Great ACGM team tho. Spot on with the main roster issue

Minimal moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mvp13</b></div><div>Maybe. There's like no relevant FA's that would cost much to invalidate this that would be a massive upgrade, though. Their forward depth has taken quite the hit. Their top 4 D should all play over 20 minutes. Even if they sign Nemeth or someone, that shouldn't cost over 1mil, then they just send Hunt down and it's the same thing.
I'd much rather invest in the perfect penalty killing 3C that can play 17+ strong minutes a night than worrying about what LD is playing ~12 minutes a night, but either way I think they could easily do both comfortably</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swissmontana</b></div><div>Avs probably should be spending their remaining cap on a 3rd pairing defenseman to replace Jack Johnson, not another middle 6 center.</div></div>
6th D isn't playing much for the Avs if everyone is healthy.
Makar - 26
Toews - 25
Byram - 22
Girard - 21
Manson - 17
That leaves ~9 minutes a night for the 6th D when the other 5 hit their average. I think they are comfortable with the group of Johnson/Hunt/Malinski/MacDermid for the 6-9 D roles. Sure they could add someone, but there isn't much available in UFA that would be a tremendous upgrade on those 9 minutes a night unless they want to bring in Bear to put on LTIR for the first half of the season. I would be interested in trading for Peeke but that's about it.
Personally I would like to see them add a C/RW to fill 3RW and compliment Colton on the 3rd line. Backlund works if they feel he can play his off hand. Roslovic would be fine. Granlund with retention or after a buyout if the Pens need to move on from him to make room for EK's cap hit in a trade.

Lindholm for wright
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McRanteskog</b></div><div>LMAO god is this ever a bad take.
Does it escape your mind that Wright projects to be a franchise C with a much higher upside than a career 55p/season player?
By your logic “Wright only has 8 NHL games… no guarantee to be close to Lindholm”etc. why not just trade for Bedard instead? He’s got no NHL games played, hasn’t proven to be as good as Lindholm either lol XD</div></div>
I get not wanting to trade Wright for Lindholm, but you're being disingenuous portraying Lindholm as a 55 point player. That's like saying Wright will score at a 0.25ppg pace for his whole career. Lindholm averages 72 pts/82 games since coming to Calgary and if Wright becomes a player of that caliber, then it's probably close to best scenario for him. I actually Wright and Lindholm were quite similar as prospects

Vaaks may be our 7th defenseman, no point to sign Nemeth — just play a youngster with Gudas
Drysdale gets closer to 2 million than 4 million and I’d give Dumba 2 years max, I’d prefer a 1x5
I think Terry gets more like a 6x7 and Zegras like a 8x7.75 or so
I think Carlsson plays one more year in the SHL then comes to the AHL as soon as his season is over there, maybe just plays in the AHL but I’m not sure we throw him straight into the NHL

I would have to assume you don’t know that Mike Grier said no more than 3.5 mil would be retained. Even if you decrease the retention by a million, your offer isn’t even close to what it would take.
