Hey Anaheim, retain cap for us and in exchange we will give you a couple cap dumps to go along with the 4 years of money you waste

This is pure speculative journalism. Peng has no idea what discussions are involved. Friedman and Seravelli both said Grier is expecting a greater return than any team is willing to offer. I hope Grier keeps him another year.

Not to mention the "rumor" is just Sheng Peng floating out ideas and he says in HIS article that it's just something he's thought up and has no merit.

Wings and Bolts Pass.
If the Karlsson deal happens the 2024 pick needs to be a 1st, then make it a conditional 2025 2nd. That's it for picks.
Drop DeSmith and throw in Blomqvist and probably Poulin.
That's your EK Deal, they'll only take one bad contract (Granlund) then you send three guys that are young and can compete for an NHL spot on a rebuild, or make the barracudas better plus a 1st and 2nd for 30% retention. Think that is the most likely EK scenario for the penguins.

Then the Canes can run Orlov-DeAngelo. That's still hilarious.

And Seravelli is an idiot, but if he's right SJ is going to just sit on Karlsson and try again at the TDL and not take the low ball offers. I was always in the camp that he's not getting traded... at least yet</div></div>
Seravelli sounds more convinced that Grier will keep Karlsson at least into the season. I agree that Grier should take the risk and get an actual return instead of giving him away like Burns. San Jose can tank just fine with a Norris winning Karlsson.

Ek on rumors what t sj wants
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Yeah. I highly doubt "Grier is dumb". I think it's SJS ownership that is handcuffing him. I think an EK trade would've already been done and they would've added some very nice assets for their rebuild if he were just allowed to retain the full 50% and take back some cap as well. But, if that is his call and not ownerships, then I severely doubt his ability to see their rebuild through.</div></div>
There's no reason to rush an EK trade. We're in the dogdays of the offseason. GMs are on vacation spending the few months they have with their family. EK is in Sweden. literally no reason to push for a bad return just to get it done sooner. the last time EK was traded was literally during the preseason. These types of deals don't happen at this time of year very frequently
50% retention would be awful. Pitt doesn't have the assets to get EK at 50%. SJ ownership is among the best in the league in terms of trusting the GM in spending to the cap to make hockey moves.

Show me one instance where Grier was dumb.
- He literally restocked the Sharsk entire defense prospect pool in one season. That's bringing in Shakir, Thrun, Pulli, Okhotiuk (not to mention drafting Havelid, Cagnoni, Pohlkamp +)
- Got Jacob Peterson for Reedy (lol)
- Got Duclair for an 4th liner/AHLer and a 4th
- Actually committed to getting a top draft pick in Will Smith (securing a future top Center)
- Traded Timo for = top pairing D-man and middle pairing shutdown d-man prospects (mentioned above), a young middle six forward with top six potential, a First (Musty already looks like a steal), and another potential 1st
- Picked up a top five pick from 5 years ago on a no-risk 1 mil prove-it deal (Zadina)

This cannot be the real ask? Dumping a bunch of contracts and not giving up anything of value for Erik Karlsson and 4.7 mil retained. I think that if this happens it has to include Owen P, the 24-1st and Pettersson. Start from there and still add.

This is somewhere about a 800k overpay for a guy who should be making league min. This has been a move that has been coming for months, at least we didn't have to give up anything.....besides important cap space. This move is a unneeded one that now creates a logjam on the blueline, I really hope TDA isn't the guy that's replacing Pesce or really anybody on the team, and should be the permanent 7D. Bad signing.

More teams should be willing to get this aggressive if they are re-building, particularly when your team is owned by a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasso_Plattner" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">multi-billionaire</a> and can take the financial hit.

With Marleau on the sharks coaching and development staff I think he could be talked into coming here and signing.
If we do trade him 50% I would assume a similar haul value wise to Meier but who really knows.

Having that opinion is valid but what exactly is the asset here? Granlund and Desmith are either cap dumps or have little to no value? So why would the sharks do this? What are they actually getting back in this deal. You would think a 24' 1st + a B+/A level prospect would have to be included in this at the minimum.

I don't like the idea of not getting a prospect back in the EK deal but Pitts prospects are so unexciting (and the ones that are decent are LD, the only position Sharks don't need), so I think two 1sts is decent. But I'd push for a bit less retention than this

Pittsburghs Second Offer to SJS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EzraK11</b></div><div>Pittsburgh already offered SJS:
-Jeff Petry
-2024 1st Round Pick
-2025 2nd Round Pick (conditional 1st)
-Sam Poulin
-Ty Smith
This would be their second offer where they would again include Petry, offload Grandlund, swap old Jeff Carter for Anthony Duclair, add Owen Pickering to sweeten the deal and include their original pick offers for 2024/2025 from the previous offer.
A very rich offer for SJS to re-consider but a serious power move to make Pittsburgh and offensive juggernaut and instantly push them back into cup contention for the rest of Crosby/Malkin/Letang's final years.</div></div>
That's Sheng Peng's guess at what the Penguins might offer, and not an actual rumored offer. Its pure speculation (as he points out in the article), but people keep taking it as fact for some reason.
