Man, You Nucks fans have been very generous to the Pens as of late. It's a nice 180 from all the terrible Marino trades lol.

The return will most likely be affected by what his contract next season will look like. If Vancouver allows teams to negotiate with his agent prior to pulling the trigger on a deal, then they might be willing to give up more if they can sign him to a longer term, lower AAV contract.
If not, and they're beholden to his qualifying offer, then he's likely not going to get much of a return, as he can just take the one year at $7.5M and become a UFA next summer and there's absolutely nothing the team that acquires him can do about it.

You say no way the pens give away Kapanen for free then expect the Canucks to do that with Garland</div></div>
Well I never said the Canucks would or should do that deal. I simply said they will come in screeching “Marino or no deal” because that’s what they always do in any trade involving Miller, Boeser, or Garland. I think it’s silly that the Canucks would be willing to give up Garland for anything so soon tbh. I think they will stick with him for now.

I think the trade proposal is very close, if there is an extra piece it would be something long term like another lesser pick or B type prospect, but a pending UFA makes little sense. Its not like NJ needs the cap or roster space either.

That is almost the exact package I have been thinking would be going to Vancouver (for Boeser or Garland and Poolman or similar)
1. Zacha’s name has been in rumor mill between the two clubs, and came out right after Garland and Devils were first connected.
2. Walsh is a analytics darling with his possession numbers and when I first heard Canucks had hired Rachel Doerrie, who knew our AHLers well, I had a sense then that she would be taking Walsh or Zetterlund with her (not that she can just do that, but you get my point).
3. They Devils have often used their 2nd rounders to acquire veterans and this years first would be too high.
Just a hunch. I really hope Walsh does not go. But I am guessing this would be the package from New Jersey.

Why do you feel he's going to be moved? All we've heard recently is that Boeser wants to stay.</div></div>
Probably because of this:

There is another but the availability is the question. That said this guy is saying overpay alert and wants ppl to give up 1sts and blue chips for the like of Drouin and Price so really hasn't a scooby doo!

Optimistic off season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>I don’t think the dumps would go to NJD, but I was targeting zacha so I roped all trades into 1. In reality I think the moves I made would be three trades:
1) some package to NJD for Zacha
2) Dickenson plus some assets for a RHD who is severson-esque (Connor Murphy? Adam larsson? Not exactly sure who but a good in zone d-man)
3) Hamonic dump to any team.
So three steps. Maybe they all happen at once in one trade but doubtful. Likely would take multiple steps.
Mostly I’m just trying to piece together what the team could look like if we upgrade 3C and 1 RHD</div></div>
Got it.
Not sure who is next Severson-esque player, or Defensive RD piece, would be. I have a few in mind that are younger and could potentially develop into that role. Guys like Cal Foote, Phil Kemp might not cost an arm and a leg. Really like Brock Faber too and his closing ability…not big, but he is just very hard to get around. Drew Helleson will be solid. Nick Perbix, Vincent Iorio. One of my favorite sleeper prospects is Ian Moore, who was one of the last cuts for US NTDP for his cohort, has since been Ryan Hardy (former GM of Chicago Steel) and Jim Tortarella (Def coach, Harvard) approved. Those two have great record of spotting talent on blueline. Big, fast, raw and underdeveloped as Junior/High-Schooler. Give him 2 years with Crimson and everyone will be asking Ducks for him.

VAN trade worked by Gardoki and Canucker
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>I wouldn’t say it’s trash. If Vancouver was in the playoffs come deadline and were to compete, I could see Vancouver making a Hoglander for Kapanen trade cause right now Kappy is an upgrade to Hoglander and GMJR and Allvin are big on Kappy. However since they aren’t, I don’t think they’d do it. Unless they were getting rid of a longer contract they didn’t want closer to Kappy’s cap hit. Maybe like a Pearson, Halak, Hoglander for Kappy, Desmith, and pick. But then again the pens don’t do that cause well Pearson didn’t work last time.</div></div>
It’s trash for Vancouver good for pens it’s pretty simple Vancouver is retooling and they are trying free up cap space not take on more. The new GM said he wants to clear cap space not take more on
