The 2nd one could be a possibility I'd think. Although the fanbase will flip **** if they trade a 24 year old for another guy over 30 with term haha

Pitts literally traded sam lafferty for him and have placed him on waivers, which he cleared. He's not worth anything ppl. Also in regards to the 1st one, Dubas loves those two lol.

No panic

Quoting: ginandtacos

I like your "no panic" approach, no need to blow up the whole team after a playoff exit - but in this very weak UFA class that seems like a low contract for Bunting.
Not saying he's great, saying he's likely to get overpaid because there isn't much out there.

No need for Bunting for more than that price. I'd be happy to roll with Nick Robertson in that spot and pay O'Reilly and Schenn more. Could also find another UFA in the 2-4 mil range that would provide similar value to Bunting if Nick Roberstson isn't ready (he's been injured all year I believe).

Quoting: gretzkyghosts

Lively conversation.
Significant players drafted 2009 out of 30 picks:
Tyson Barrie D Kelowna Rockets [WHL] 683 95 340 435 207
Brayden McNabb D Kootenay Ice [WHL] 576 23 93 116 421
Reilly Smith R St. Michael's Buzzers [OJHL] 686 174 243 417 176
Kevin Connauton D Western Michigan University [CCHA] 360 28 52 80 188
Nicolas Deslauriers L Rouyn-Noranda Huskies [QMJHL] 506 44 41 85 521
Cody Eakin C Swift Current Broncos [WHL] 701 110 146 256 278
Significant players drafted 2010 out of 30 picks:
Radko Gudas D Everett Silvertips [WHL] 610 31 116 147 764
Bryan Rust R U.S. National Development Team [USHL] 424 124 146 270 136
Joakim Nordstrom C AIK Jr. [Swe-Jr] 444 32 43 75 77
Significant players drafted 2011 out of 30 picks:
Vincent Trocheck C Saginaw Spirit [OHL] 555 150 228 378 372
Adam Lowry C Swift Current Broncos [WHL] 539 80 88 168 287
Nick Cousins C Soo Greyhounds [OHL] 444 55 83 138 210
Blake Coleman C Indiana Ice [USHL] 382 87 72 159 301
Jordan Binnington G Owen Sound Attack [OHL] 162 0 2 2 20
If you wish can add any player to the list.
90 players drafted 14 had long NHL careers. 15.6%
Seven were significant and two were superior (Trocheck and Barrie). 2.2%
I stopped after three years, I did not look any further.
Obviously the third round of the 2014 draft produced the second best player of the entire draft:
Brayden Point C Moose Jaw Warriors [WHL] 417 167 201 368 121
Is an All Star pick

Dayum that was quite the round! Would love to see an in-depth analysis on odds of each round for like, a superstar (ppg player?), an all-star, a long nhl career, and 100+ games

Quoting: OrganizedConfusion55

Just playing over 1 season, isn't a NHLer. I think 164 games is low bar. But I will say two years, I'd be shocked if you find 140 nhlers from the draft classes 1998-2017, Figured it's not fair to take the last 20 years, since those players are still developing.
And all this, is still ignoring my key adjective of my post, significant, NHLer. Significant NHLers, it's going to be about half a percent from just rounds 3 and 4. Basically 1 one a year.
So, I'd rather take that 3 million plus, sign an actual NHLer that isn't a cap dump. The UFA signing will have overwhelmingly higher odds of outproducing both players that would have be taken in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

Well if you think a rebuilding team needs a "significant nhler" to eat 3.8mil of cap for 1 year, then its a good thing you're not in charge of your team turning down free assets

And your numbers are not right for players just to turn into a NHLer. You think more than 7 nhlers come out of the 3rd and 4th round each year.

They're close... according to this guy https://dobberprospects.com/2020/05/16/nhl-draft-pick-probabilities/
(his sample is from 2000-2009 it looks like, so it must be a little different.. but must be close). Playing 100 nhl games is pretty much being an NHLer.

You're incorrect. It's around 13% for a 3rd rounder and 10% for a 4th.

Lol he got the contract to make the cap floor. Mrazek will do that for him. If its not a 3rd and 4th pick it's something close to that. You get the idea.
