McCabe 2.0 - I’d be all in, if Tre can find it 🤞

Karlsson and Pesce

At 7.5m a year, I don't see many teams out bidding this offer.
Karlsson at full cap - No teams would touch him
Karlsson at 9.5m cap - I think 1-3 teams may take him for free
Karlsson at 8.5m cap - A team may pay a 2nd round pick for him
Karlsson at 7.5m cap - this is where I see his value increasing quite a bit. 1st + good prospect is fair. Which they get Niemela + 1st here. Lets say Robertson and Murray cancel each other out.
Karlsson at 50% retention - I think a team would pay ALOT for him here. BUT it sounds like Grier doesn't want to do that. I think that's the wrong move.
I could be wrong and I am open to that possibility. But if you are expecting more than this, I think you will be in for a surprise.

The shake up that can make sense
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaquille_Oatmeal</b></div><div>Calgary isn't doing that and neither is Arizona. Getting rid of Murray's contract will almost cost a 1st round pick by it self. Are you getting Crouse and Schmaltz for a late 1st round pick + Robertson? Not even close.</div></div>
So everyone has either forgotten about the Mrazek deal that set the market for goalies getting moved or just ignore it to fuel their desire to see the leafs burn. It will not cost as much to move Murray as it cost to move Mrazek. So no it will not cost a first. The best goalie on the market this summer is Jarry. Guess what he is, an inconsistent goalie who can't stay healthy. Murray is going to make less than he will next season and has won 2 cups and won't need a minimum of 3 years term. Murray is not going to be problematic to move.

You're completely confused if you think that's true. Marner is 26 and a top 10/15 player in the league...Kasper is a really nice prospect. The Leafs would NEVER make that trade. Yzmeran would instantly accept that trade.

Karlsson an option
I think Sharks aim for around 2.5 retention and maybe add a 3rd, but I definitely don't hate that deal tbh.
I think Leafs still come out on top of this, especially if it ended up being 3.5 mil retention. I can't imagine Liljegren, Robertson, or the late 2023 First coming anywhere near the level of talent as EK65. But definitely some solid assets coming back that fit the Sharks timeline.

How is trading nylander help pay Matthews in 2024? You could just have another shot at it next year and let him walk before you trade him for not much return.
Also in general fans, media, whoever need to understand the leafs are in the best position cap wise to sign matthews. Anyone can insert the “leafs are in cap hell” reply here if they like but Leafs are already paying matthews 11.6, how much more is he gonna get? 13? 14? They only need to pay him 2-3 million more than they are now, the cap will prob go up that on its own by 24. Any other team needs to free up 13-14 million as most likely he want to sign with a team that is up against the cap already.
Cap will never be an issue in resigning Matthews, he just needs to want to stay. JT deal up the year after he would sign so it could be tight for the first season then 11 million comes off.</div></div>
Wisdom and good sense don't really drive people's reasoning on here.

Its ok to trade Knies
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rgwhite17</b></div><div>For sure ya I can agree. As a fan right now I’m just hoping if the leafs don’t get Meier it’s reported afterwards they had a top offer but it was just beat out. It will be very frustrating if it’s reported Meier to the leafs would have happened but they wouldn’t include knies.</div></div>
Grier said a bunch of teams have asked about Timo. Toronto, Boston, NJ, Buf, and Carolina are all rumored to be kicking tires. Being Grier's first major trade, you can bet he doesn't want to lose it and is waiting for the best offer possible. Grier said whatever the offer it has to be one that makes SJ speed up their rebuild so I would assume the main piece has to be someone that is very close to NHL ready if not ready now and will make an impact in SJ in the near future, not in 2-4 years.

I don't hate this but, I don't think that Chicago would do that. It really does not seem like enough with a retention like that and a top four D leaving.
Probably any deal for both of those guys would be centered around young promising prospects and very high picks coming back.
Just my two cents.

The shake up
CHI declines. It's not an awful offer, and could probably get negotiations going. But, if it isn't obvious by now, CHI wants picks and prospects/young players (under 23-24). Holl and Engvall add very little value, if any, to the trade. They are involved simply to create cap space for TOR. Nylander and a 1st doesn't get you you Kane 50% retained AND Murphy. Past injury issues aside, good RHD are like gold in this league, and he is on a very manageable contract with term.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rgwhite17</b></div><div>I think if you can hold onto knies and niemila is can be worth it. As much as I wouldn’t want to trade sandin, he doesn’t have a contract and not sure how that’s going to play out. For this year alone not having sandin and Robertson doesn’t really change much. It hurts for the future. If Kane is willing to waive for Toronto maybe he will resign to a deal like Malkin? Kane should be able to produce for more years with Matthews and you could trade nylander next summer before losing him to free agency.
Most likely all a pipe dream but just thoughts in my head lol</div></div>

Surely the difference between 99 points in 81 games is worth a lot more than 16 points in 42 games.</div></div>
The canucks trades mccan for Gudbranson, that means the leafs could trade muzzin for petterson

Except the entire point was that, should they want to, the leafs could easily put together a package for miller that didnt include a 2023 1st or liljegren. And i did, very easily.
The canucks would be all over this trade, so yeah, that's the point made right there. It is really very simple

Not looking good this year
What’s not looking good, brah? Basically same team that finished 4th overall last year. A few changes at the fringes - could argue other contenders changed more than us. I for one am not too worried about goalies, not like we had vasilevsky last year - Soupy (great in 1st half, terrible in 2nd and so so in playoffs) & Mrazek (disaster). Wash at worse with potential to be better.

I'm not sure you could say down year. I wasn't devaluing him for a slight decline in ppg.
Sandin has only played 80 games which is perfectly fine for a 21 yr old Dman. Clearly not how you value Dmen or we would be discussing kerfoot for Pesce.
