<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDSUFRATMAN</b></div><div>No way Detroit does that. They want picks or prospects. They are also have bad contracts on their team and they want to free up cap. They also wouldn't give up Bertuzzi for older vets</div></div>

kane is 27, but I hear you. Personally, I really wouldnt care who takes those guys as long as the return is a cheaper (sub 2M) top 9 forward.

maybe same deal for Blake Coleman from NJD. NJD has tons of space, will get Hughes, and will be looking to compete next year, I think. This deal vaults them into a contender next year.

maybe the NYI targeting cizikas as they could use some offensive pop too.

I dont care how dougie does it as long as he accomplishes the following:

1. resign karlsson
2. Keep pavs, meier, labanc.
3. sign Panarin.

I like the sharks forward prospects coming up. I want to add proven Playoff guys who are consistent performers while ditching guys like Kane who disappear for long stretches and play their worst when it matters most and dont work hard every shift. To me, kane is by far the most disappointing player this year (1 goal in the last 15 games!! minus player in 9 of them). Last year, vs. vegas he had 1 pt, -5 in five games. Yes, he was injured, but he sucked in his own end as much as he sucked offensively. He is repeating that same performance this year. The sharks cannot afford having a defensive liability in the top 6.

Panarin is the exact opposite. He was the jackets' best playoff player. He dominated tampa and went point per game vs. boston. He is a point per game playoff player and while a moderate minus, he has not been on good teams like Kane is. e has been asked to carry his team, so on a team already stacked with hertl, meier, cooch etc panarin would just be another super weapon who is also solid defensively (he's been dougle digit plus each of the last three years, +63 in his career and that's with a thin blue jackets team. How big would his plus be with the sharks???)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WishfulSharkFan</b></div><div>Even if LA were to accept, Kane would likely block the trade with his NTC. He's happy in SJ, and its taken a while for him to find a home where he feels comfortable in the locker room.

Also, if you're giving Pavelski 5 years, I think it's fair to say the cap hit will be lower, maybe 6M or 6.5M . I can see it being around 7M for 2 or 3 years though.

I see Braun having positive value @ 3.8M but i dont think you're getting a package of picks like that with Dell or Melker, who may have negative value on their current deals. I hope I'm wrong, Doug Wilson pulled off magic last season with the whole Boedker -&gt; Hoffman -&gt; picks deal, maybe he can do it again.</div></div>

He could dump melker for a late round pick. and Dell too I think. Neither would land much more than a 5th-7th rounder, but I think there is a market for them. I also think a vet like braun can get at least a 2nd, maybe even a late 1st. Braun is a very desireable add for any team, and dillon would be too. Definitely high value for either.

As for the realism of the doughty trade, it's not. at all. I know that :-) Its just for fun...

I am a firm believer of building a winner from the net out. I also a firm believer of needing just 4 top D in the playoffs. Right now, the sharks have 3 top D. One more and they would be truly set.

They also have a very rich farm up front. Chmelevski is rocking it, 2nd in the OHL in playoff points, and was #1 star for team USA in the gold medal game. Chekhovich looked NHL ready during the preseason last year. He'll be ready this year for sure, whether he makes the team or not. We'll see what blichfeld can do as the #2 scorer in all the CHL, and Noah gregor is 3rd in WHL playoff scoring and had a very strong year. Alex true has the size to play an NHL game and really emerged this year. Gambrell hasnt quite found that spot yet, but he seems to be getting close. Even Francis Perron looked pretty good before his head injury. And, of course, every year, dougie seems to find some junior or Euro FA that steps in and makes an impact (marcus sorenson, melker karlsson, joonas donskoi, barclay goodrow, Tim Heed, lukas radil, etc etc etc... all undrafted FA signings). Its also much easier to acquire forward talent throughout the season. Looks at the players that moved at the deadline: Stone, Duchene, Dzingel, Nyqist, Hayes, Zuccarello, Coyle, hagelin... All top 9 forwards. The only top 4 D who moved near the deadline was Muzzin. All others like del zotto, lovejoy, etc ar much more depth Dmen.

As such, solidifying the D through the next 6 years allows the sharks to focus on developing their young forwards and acquiring at the deadline as needed....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drew1871</b></div><div>Excellent points, I feel Mojo's decline is more of a product of his environment and deployment and less of a representative of him as a player. The Devils are horrendous. The deal is favored on the Devils side and I like that as a Devils fan. I think a realistic deal would be 50% retained Mojo and a mid-to-late-round pick for a 2nd and one B level prospect.

IMO, SJ has to go all in. The reason, I think EK moves on in FA and does not resign with the Sharks and I think SJ's window is closing honestly.</div></div>

I think they kind of are all in. They went all in when they acquired karlsson. Spending even more on guaranteed rentals doesnt necessarily even increase your chance of winning as chemistry is as important as talent. The chemistry is prtty awesome now, so acquiring a top 6 forward is likely wasted resources.

I complete disagree about the closing window, regardless of whether EK 65 stays or goes. The sharks just won 6 in a row without him, marching through the top two teams in the west in their buildings. They have a nice mix of youth and vets. Next year, pavs will be the only past-prime forward (or jumbo), with all other forwards 30 or younger including the two dominant players in meier and hertl at 25 or less.

The D is aging some, but simek, ryan and dillon are sub-30. Vlasic will be 32, which is not young, but not exaclty old. Burns will be 34, but he is showing no signs of a decline, so even if he goes down some, he'll still be pretty good. And they'd have ample money if EK65 doesnt resign to go after a quality player in the offseason.

Dont get me wrong, I want Ek to stay, but I dont see this whole 'closing window' thing. If they fail this year, and EK 65 leaves, they will still have a very good team with Pavs (if/when he resigns), cooch, kane, hertl, meier, donkey (if he resigns), labanc, sorensen, and several very promising rookies. Their D is still good with Burns, Vlasic, Braun, Dillon, Simek, Ryan. It's not a dominant D, but still pretty good.
