Howd I approach Next Year
After Johnston claimed that no matter how the playoffs go, he thinks that Dubas will trade one of the big 4 this summer (which would obiously be Nylander), i started thinking about trades for him. I was thinking of one similar to this but revolving around Vilardi. It would be a gamble because neither Turcotte or Vilardi have shown any success at the NHL level but if they could reach their ceilings it would be the grounds for a good trade if we desperately need capspace.
The Number of rookies on this roster would frighten me a little. I would either keep Kerfoot for his versatility and/or get a decent 3rd line center upgrade on Kampf instead of giving out long term contracts to Sandin and liljegren (who i don't think would take 8 year deals at 4M).
Even if Campbell has decent numbers the rest of the year and the playoffs i am scared to commit that much money and term when he can implode and become a detriment for months at a time.

You mean he should look for a better deal with more years on the open market or he shouldn't be offered that long from the leafs?

Insults are probably against the rules, so i wont insult you., but you have no idea how LTIR works and i suggest you look into it. This is a moronic trade that has absolutely no positives. im also assuming you're like 12 years old.

Trade Rielly
That is an insane return for Rielly that no one would pay. Jones percieved value is much higher than Riellys. Hes right handed which is more of a commodity and he was willing ti sign an extension which rielly woudln't do in winnipeg.

Cup winning leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DubasJr</b></div><div>The reason I would make this trade is to get a top 4 D (Ekholm) on a cheap deal for next season which allows you to resign Hyman for sure and maybe even Anderson. You let Seattle take Muzzin or Brodie in expansion. Top 4 next season is: Rielly, Ekholm, Holl,, Muzzin or Brodie with Sandin and a bogo like Dman on your 3rd pair. This also solidifies the top 6 for next year with Forsberg, matthews, marner, hyman, tavares, nylander. I see why parting ways with liljegren/dermot could hurt the team on the right side but it's also about cap flexibility next season and the season after when Rielly is a UFA. If this were to happen i don't think there would be a better top 6/top 4 in the league for this season and the next.</div></div>
If either of Muzzin or Brodie was playing poorly i would be all on board galaxy braining going after Ekholm and exposing one of them. They are both playing well though. This is not a way to get UFAs to come to the leafs. Dubas goes out of his way to make right by the players in situations such as Leivo and Lehtonen. Exposing two recently signed UFAs after they play well and then almost immediately backdoor them to another team is a good way to not have UFAs want to sign here.

Nashville could have a bounce back year next year if they were to keep these guys but I don't think that it is unfair trade value.</div></div>
Kerfoot and Engvall dont hold much value. SDA is a nice shot in the dark but probably wont be an NHL player. Liljegren is nice and the picks are nice, but both Forsberg and Ekholm have another year on the deal and are top tier players. The asking price for them should be huge even before retained salary.

I dont get the point of going out and trading for ekholm only for him to play 3rd pair minutes. And i dont see the point of playing him more and having either of Reilly or Muzzin playing third pair minutes.
If we trade for a forward who has years left on his current deal beyond this season we open ourselves to losing Holl to Seattle. I would much rather target a rental player and go 4-4-1 and expose Kerfoot and Dermott while protecting all of our current top 4.
Trading Dermott, Liljegren and losing Holl in the expansion leaves this team with a deficient on defense once again especially on the right side, like the last handful of years.
I also think Nashville could get more if they sold these players separately. They are Both top tier trade options for contendors.

I want no part of a Hyman deal in anywhere near the range of 7 years. Hes going to be 29 next season. We can't go making the same mistakes that teams like chicago did after signing Kane and Toews to their 10M deals, especially without winning any cups. Signing roll players to relatively big long contracts is a no go. I like Hyman. He is a good role player but 4x4 would be the max i would give him in money and term. When Hyman is If he wants anything more then i let him walk and use the cap space accordingly.

Sandins potential makes him very valuable to us moving forward. I don't think acquiring Forsberg for two cup runs is worth him along with two other prospects and two relatively high picks. Jarnkrok is a good option for a 3rd line centre but i dont feel like he is much of an upgrade on Kerfoot. These trades leave Spezza out of the lineup which i think is a mistake. I love him on the 4th line. Vesey would pass through waivers in my opinion so i doubt we could get anything for him. Id rather hold onto lehtonen if only to show future Euro free agents that we wont dump them as soon as possible. I like the idea of getting defensive depth and would welcome Hamonic on the team but i dont see us and Vancouver as good trading partners.

Leafs add some Offense and Defense
No way a less profitable team like Nashville retains salary on both players like that. Nashville could get more by trading Ekholm and Forsberg separately than what you've offered up here. Why do the leafs go out an acquire Ekholm to play third pair minutes? If he doesn't then all of a sudden we have either Rielly or Muzzin playing third pair minutes. Doesn't make sense.
Staal will fetch a higher pick and/or a prospect with more value than brooks. we traded 2nd rounders in years past for 4th line centers at the trade deadline.

DeBennett
A buyout for DeAngelo this summer is negligible in terms of cap penalty. They can still get something for him but it wont be much, but they wont have to pay hand over fist to have another team take him. I dont think Bennett is worth much. Calgary is my second team i follow and i dont think his production lives up to his salary and i don't think his ability to play center is good enough. Retaining salary for this year might make him worth it but next season he will need a new deal and will have to be qualified at least what he is making now which i doubt he will live up too.

trade with toronto
So they are going to trade Kylington and a couple seconds in so that the Rangers retain 1M? Thats the only difference between taking DeAngelo off of waivers for nothing a few days ago. Rangers have almost zero leverage if they want him traded immediately. The buyout cost at the end of the year is almost nothing.
