Hire DeBoer And Trade Nylander
The list of leafs players (not named Matthews or Marner) who have been more productive than nylander since 2000 are:
Kessel 11/12
Tavares 18/19
Let's stop trading the elite winger for scraps yeah?

miller would be a great piece, but i don't see him as the "missing link".</div></div>
That's fair. I wonder who else they could get that would provide the same impact/$$$ though. Maybe if they could pull off a Nylander deal for a guy still on an ELC that could bust out, but GM's are hesitant to move those guys.

I'm not making a straight-line comparison between the two players, Miller is obviously not in the league MVP category. I'm saying it's the type of deal that Friedman is talking about; making a move for a star player that you may only have 1 year of control over for a run at a championship. He may not be an MVP, but he is the caliber and type of player Toronto (or any contender) would love to add.

Same thing I told the other guy
Is there an issue with the deal yeah sure there is but the idea of La shedding some prospects can't be denied
They have no room for any of them as we have seen and a couple of them will become busts just due to not getting playing time which sucks to see
A different deal would be better but you aren't gonna get anything by having these guys as healthy scratches

Doubtful the Leafs give up Liljegren for a rental. Like, think about it. - 2 top prospects, 1 already establishing himself as a quality NHL player, a 1st round pick, and a middle six winger likely worth a 2nd himself, for someone who would be on our bottom pairing, and a rental forward we wouldn't be able to re-sign.
remove Liljegren and Schenn, and you are at that "top prospect, roster player and a 1st round pick" that top pending UFA's typically go for.

Matthews is generational talent
That doesnt get him especially with the season he had
Eichel got more than that and hes worse
If Arizona wants him its gonna cost alot more.

Matthews extension wont be that much to where you need to move JT to make it happen. 13.5-14mill x 8 years at most. By the time its due the cap should be around 85mill
People say hes going to Arizona but they cant afford him. They can barely afford what they have rn. By the time hes up they will be in Houston.

Fixing the Depth and Adding Character
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westcoastleaf</b></div><div>this is one of the more logical ones i've seen for the leafs, i love the signings but might tweak the lines a bit from what you've got there.
my 2.5 cents:
1. i think our bottom six actually out-played theirs for most of the series, depth isn't necessarily the problem.
2. matthews needs to get awat from marner, their show works in the regular season, but it's a disaster in the playoffs when the checking gets tighter and teams have more time to prepare and game plan for them.
2b:. i think marner could really benefit from a move to the 2nd line, perhaps with JT and cizikas. put engvall with soupy and mcginn, and one of robertson/brooks with spezza and another big body on the 4th.
also, hyman turning down 5mil........ :huh</div></div>
Some posters above are saying that the Hyman thing was debunked, I thought it was odd too that he would turn down 5M, so maybe just swap him out with Saad I guess?
1. Nah Montreal's depth was definitely better, Anderson was a line of his own. Danault and his lineobviously did their part, Suziki and Caufield looked really strong. Byron, Perry, Evans, Armia, and Toffoli were all solid too.
2. I mentioned at the top that I think it may be a coaching thing, this is 2 years in a row that Toronto has been completely shut down by the Trap. I don't really have issues with Keefe but he's more of a players coach, he kinda just lets them roam free instead of taking command. His answer has been "shorten the bench and stack the first line" twice now, in reality at least this year Marner and Nylander should have swapped lines after game 4, not try to wedge Nylander into a line that clearly has not worked in postseason.
2b. I think these lines are fine for regular season, definitely keep Cizikas at center though

The Hyman thing is not accurate. It was one guy who said he heard that rumor and was unsure if it was true. It was quickly debunked by multiple sources.
Still wouldn't be overly shocked to see him elsewhere, just wanted to set the record straight.

Hey leafs fans
Marner won't be moved i think. It is still too early in his career to give up. Unless the deal is great I say he stays. Now if he has another lackluster playoff performance next year he might want to leave Toronto just to get away from angry fans.
