Unholy Alliance
May need to remove Mesar, since he'll be of no value for the Leafs, add another key piece like Mailloux or Harris, even Matheson for that deal to go through.
They'll want to up their Defensive line, so Struble & Matheson, or Struble & Harris, or Struble & Mailloux plus that MTL 1st would be a better trade off for them. Even then, Toronto fans will want Reinbacher, Ghule or Hutson (who'll do nothing for them since he's not a defensive blue liner and not a big guy either), but Reinbacher and Ghule are the HABS franchise's future not key pieces.
I'd even add MIN (2024) round 3 and Pitts (2025) round 2 picks to give them more to the pot.
In essence, like you said most Leafs fan will spit on this and most Habs fans won't see the need Habs have for a top 3 offensive forward like Marner.

convince marner to waive and do this
I'm thinking that DeMelo may sign for double that given his last three years being at a +10 and this year going for a whopping +46 with 31 pts. And Tanev will be a player that teams will want to add and pay for his last 3 years of hockey, So unless he takes a major hit on his salary to come play for his hometown team I wouldn't see those signings.
Personally I think upping the money on DeMelo would be the best bet. I think that if Marner moves his NMC, they'd try to go for a top 2 Dman and not a goalie since the UFA market will as a few of them go up and may not cost a 5M$ cap hit.

LEAFS KABOOM
Personally, as a HABS fan, I am P.O'ed that the Leafs are back to the wall agaisnt the Bruins, because I would love to see a final cup team matchup of two Canadian team just to see Bettman's face when he learns that the cup will come back to Canada... After losing his 28 year gamble (20 of which were a money losing team) this would really make his head pop...
This team you built isn't going to help the Leafs. My personal view would be to trade either Nylander or Marner to get back a seasoned Defensman who's more on the defensive side. They need Defense and a solid goalie. While, their current goalies can't really look good with a defensive line up that can't hold their own against the opposing teams.
If Nylander or Marner are willing to waiver their NMC for a solid team, then make the move. Dubas destroyed their team by looking only at offense and not having a clue about defense. He's doing it again in Pittsburg and you can clearly see Crosby not being happy about it. But then you look at what the Leafs did in hiring Treliving.. The guy who couldn't figure the same things out in Calgary... Shanahan needs to go, I don't know about Keefe, I mean, all he's got to work with is offense, I don't know if his system would work if he got some real top 4 defensemen in his lineup.
Bu SHanahan .. ouch.. He hired Dubas, signed off on his bad deals, said ok to 12 NMC out of 23 players who are mostly all overpaid, and kept him clean for too long before he moved to PIttsburg, then he hires Treliving.. They need a new President and new GM with an actual vision of what it take to win a cup.
Tavares isn't willing to move his NMC, Matthew is actually the franchise player they need who is actually fighting for a chance out there which is impressive compared to two years ago when he wasn't putting 100% of his skills out there. This and last year.. He's showing he can block shots, and play.. But the rest isn't coming together.
Marner and Nylander are the only two that could go to make space for a top 2 level type defenseman. But you need to keep one of them. So go with the one that as the best on ice chemistry with Matthews.
If they can get a top2 blue liner, and get a top 4 with the money you save off of Brodie (he's 33, at some point you need to move to another player), then they'll have something to play in the pff season with.

Can't put two phrases with some sustenance behind it. While some may not like this AGM I put out there, it's just one possibility of many, and I'm fully conscious that there are at least 20 other teams that would get involved and may even be better pieces in a deal than MTL. But Mtl will not be giving up Caufield, Suzuki, Reinbacher, Ghule, or Slaf for someone like Zegras who is going out in the media showing that he's not happy with ANA not giving him the big bucks.
And then you have some fans who can't see his actual value based on his points, his plus minuses, and his attitude in ANA, they think all teams will give out 2 top 10 first picks, two 100pts players and the moon.

Armia is paid 3.5M$ to be on a fourth.. That can be handled by other players who cost less, and if he doesn't show up again next year or dips before TDL then you lose him for nothing. May as well grab the dividends while they're hot..
Kovy.. He's worth something, but will be coming into a contract season and Habs have many young Defensemen waiting to move up. Trade for assets is not bad, and you give him the chance to play more elsewhere.
Harris move - Well... That's what you say, and while most of us Habs fans would think we can get a 1st round pick in the top 15, reality sets in and at best Harris is worth a 2nd round pick. With Struble playing the way he has, he surpassed him, so I would rather keep him than Harris at this point.
There is never too many picks. Come Draft day, you can select more players giving you an opportunity to find that one player chosen late that should've been a 1st rounder, or you can package a player you need to move with some picks to a team that can take on the player and contract and grab picks they are missing to ensure the future.

Taking our final retention spot right now removes any type of flexibility during the year on other contracts.
Dvorak is an other player we might need that retention spot at the TDL (there's also always broker teams)</div></div>
The TDL waiting will assume he'll still be playing to the level of the last month and a half. Hugues may take that chance or will he take a knee and grab what he can for him now without retention on the salary to use it for the full year?
I would personally move him as soon as possible. Some players have their ups and downs, had he been on fire since November or December they may have had calls for him at TDL giving more than expected. None of us know what's going on right now, but if an offer comes in, I would try to work it out.

I'm thinking he's moving him out because of the same points you are making. First time he's been consistent. Trade him while he's got value and won't lose him to UFA as he's saying those things to the Habs thinking he's worth 5M$/yr. At 1.5M$/x1 I'd keep him if it wasn't for Gally and Anderson taking the right wing, but at 3.4M$ if someone is willing to take him for depth and a contract year player who will give it all to get that next contract, it's a good move for a team looking to rebuild and have a few players able to move into his spot.
He's back into playing mode, but you want to maximize the return on that player.

in this hockey league.. nothing is 0%... Habs moved Weber's contract out... Got 2 first by taking and trading Monahan.. Got a 2nd for Allen and were able to move not once but twice Petry... LOL!
If a team wants to take a chance and sit Mayfield out for a year to let him recuperate at 100% (and if the Isles are ready for that, Barron could be the backup for that year and see where it goes), there's no way of it being 0%. LOL!

Russian prospects are not stuck in Russia. Khusnutdinov, Miroshnichenko, Neuchev, Svechkov, Chibrikov are all good Russian prospects that came in North America.
Demidov have 0 point in the KHL because he played less than 8 minutes in average when he was there. It is not worrying scout at all. However, he played few games in the VHL (2nd men league in Russia) and he didn’t put a point despite having in average 20 minutes of time on ice. That point is worrying me a little personally. That’s why he’s not 2nd on my list but 3rd behind Konsta Helenius.</div></div>
Yeah but all good prospects aren't top 3 prospects. Hence why Philly drafted Michkov 7th instead of having gone top 2, and you know the whole father deal where the rumors were that he was negotiating to have his son come to North America before he suddenly vanished and found dead.
If Demidov is seen as someone who can help the KHL go up a notch, they will not let him go as they did with Michkov. Putin wants Russia to keep their stars in Russia. Could be just a misconception, but the circumstances are weary to say the least. I would not bet my top 10 pick on a player I can't seem to have control over his coming over here.

Points in those leagues doesn't mean anything. Once they graduate to AHL or NHL it's either they can or can't. Joshua Roy put up 119 and 99 goals in the juniors, he's 6' and can play. Still, in the AHL was only able to put up 31pts in 40 games with a -15. With the Habs 9pts -2 in 23 games.
It always depends on the value of the league that year, how many good defensemen are out there playing against you, and are there any top goalie on the opposing teams. I don't value those points for now. He's not been impressive on his first try-out in the KHL and VHL. That may be a better indicator.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan1986</b></div><div>Lindstrom will be in the top 5. That is the player I want Montreal to select(if available).
Montreal should also look for an RHD. By the time Savard(assuming he signs an extension next season, since he wants to stay), retires or wants to take a step back. Reinbacher should be ready for top line, but do you really think Mailloux will be ready for 2nd pairing?
Should be select Lindstrom, if selected back up plan, is to go for the best RHD.</div></div>
Yeah, Lindstrom goes up to the top 5 or drops to the top 10 depending on the lists, but yeah could be that one surprise player that pops-out of the draft and give the team that selects him the right to brag. So I wouldn't be surprised if they go for him if he's still there.

I find it hard to believe that I'm reading comments about having no room for another young RD because they have three players now. Mayfield isn't getting any younger and may need time to rest, Barron is an opportunity for Roy to mold a new kid as he reaches full potential in 1 to 2 years. If Mayfield isn't 100% at the start of next year, Isles may need to have a bit more depth with a player who can play 10min per game on the third pair with offensive potential. His defensive skills can be brought up with good coaching, which you guys have right now in Roy.
Giving a mid to late 1st is not that big of a deal when you have a ready to play guy vs a prospect you have no clue how he can develop in a year or two.

Totally understand, but I think you need to consider that Roy is a different beast, he likes to mold younger guys into his style of hockey. Mayfield is 31, still good for a Defenseman, but played 41 games and was -7. They may consider adding an extra body to either have more depth or just as a precaution and (depending on the true nature of his injury) rest him out a bit more until he's 100%, or even look for a trade to get new blood upfront if needed.
Barron could be an easy win for Roy on that end.

Only reason I don't see Evans going is that he does his job, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and is able to fit in the group without issues. He's a great 4th liner and I think he's appreciated by the players and management.
If he indicated anything about going to test the UFA market, then Habs may move him. But I do think he's worth a 2nd round pick from a top 5 team, or 3rd rounder from a bottom 5 team. He proved his worth.

Point taken.
Not going against it... Just trying things out, see how they could play out.
But, I'm not sure about the Marchesseault comment. While he's not a big guy, he still produced more than 40 goals and has a few games left. Taking him on at that salary for 3 years wouldn't be a disaster, it would be prepping the younger guys, giving them another leader in the room who can produce. If Dach is finally healthy (hoping they gave him the year off to fully recup like they did for Monahan) that line would be something to see. They may even compete with Suzuki's line. He could also cost less, depends on how much value Vegas have for him and keep him around.
He may also take less to stay in Vegas... Nicer weather, taxes, and everything else .. I would.. LOL!

99.999% of the teams indicate this as having a depth chart. Mayfield was out LITR, so adding a new younger player with offensive awareness while being groomed to up his defensive side by someone like Roy would be a + for the Isles. Bortuzzo is 35, and play 20 games a year.
Anyone who knows Roy will understand he's a coach who likes building players up starting with something positive. Barron has shown great skills in terms of offense for a Dman, his defensive skills are to be tweaked, but Roy is the type of coach who could hammer it into him. Habs do have more than needed, and would most likely trade well with the Isles. For a 2nd draft pick while he was a late first isn't much to give for a player with his potential. Most Dmen develop around 26yrs old, he's young and has size which is a plus when thinking like Roy.

Silayev is good, especially if you want a guy that is 6'7 on our blueline. No matter who you pikc out of those you listed, you are going to get a good player, it just depends on what they want. For me, a center man makes perfect sense, but defensive depth never hurts either. Lets not forget that they have 2 1sts, and 2 2nds this year, so they may even be able to pull a few strings, and get a good defence man, and forward.</div></div>
Exactly.. it's what they view as a must. they have Dach for the center, is he out on LITR for treatment and much need rest like they did with Monahan.. No rush to come back.. Take all the time you need to recover at 100% or is he really not able to play at all. If he's still a risk next year, the shift may well go for a Center like you said.
I Passed on the Russians, too much risk with everything going on right now. Players being held in the KHL, a father suddenly killed when his kid was a foot away from the NHL.. You don't want to recruit and let them rot over there.
If they do go for Dickinson, while he's got points, he's also keeping his plus minuses .. 70PTS but a freakish +56.. No matter how good you are, keeping the high + is hard.

With them being thin down the middle, i would have to say they should look at a center man this draft. Cayden Lindstrom, and Berkly Catton fits the bill imo.</div></div>
Not disagreeing, I think it's a valid point. I just wonder where and who'll be available and what the top level feel like they actually need. We talk about the depth of the MTL blue line, but really... Are they all top 4? Ghule, yes Reinbacher, to be seen but most likely, Mailloux, dunno yet.. AHLer yes, NHLer to be proven.. So if there is a top 4 ready blue liner in the draft who's available.. Do you pass on him and then make move to pay the front line with UFAs like Marchessault?
Another one is Eiserman, depending on which list you look at Bob McKenzie (TSN) list, he's putting him at no 4. Bob ain't crazy, he's the guy who was saying Wright could be a bust and Slaf was the way better option.. A year later.. We can agree to Bob's mumblings.. Then Lindstrom, Catton and Helenius ..
I did an AGM for draft, My preferences would be for the first picks starting at #4 depending on where MTL goes and who' available:
1. Dickinson - While another Defenseman, he's a big guy who moves the puck and gets in the pluses; You can't skip over a player like that. You get another Reinbacher type player who'll be a major decision maker during games. You suddenly have Ghule, Reinbacher, Dickinson, Mailloux, Matheson, Xhekaj.. Harris, Struble as being interchangeable with Xhekaj when needed and in your farm or development you have Barron, Hutson, Sobolev, etc.. So you have the Top 6 you always wanted, plus other you can trade out.
2. Eiserman - seems more like an offensive guy able to play both ways and is at a bigger stature than Connelly with a whopping 40lbs more for almost the same height. He also defends better in the corners and is able to use his quick shot for goals. We get another Cole Caufield but on the right wing, at a bigger size. You suddently give Dach some power offense to his left side.
3. Lindstrom - another forward at center with offensive potential but with size compared to Catton;
4. Catton - He's a good player, center and would need 1 year in Laval, but would be another forward with scoring potential they need;
5. Helenius - Another forward with lots of offensive potential.
But DIckinson's stats are impressive this year. Way off the charts, even for an OHLer..

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habs_need_Scoring</b></div><div>pretty easy no from the habs. thats a crazy price for a 25 year old who hasnt broken 60 points Beck alone could be a better player in a few season, not to mention hes a center who plays a complete game and fits their timeline better. I dont see the appeal to that deal in any way from the habs. Also how would he want 9 mil? lol Necas going to probably extend in the 7-8 mil range and is a much better player.</div></div>
Yeah but he's been in Buffalo and he's getting accustomed to AVS plays.. He can easily break 70-80 pts with a center like Dach (if he can stop being injured). So I did the 7.85M$ for now. Beck is playing in the OHL, not AHL nor a division one Euro league. There is way too much talk about players before they get into the league. Mittelstadt is an NHLer who's been stuck in Buffalo county for too long. Given the right center, he could be way better than what he's shown.
About that 9M$.. Player's salary will go up as the salary cap goes up. Suzuki, if he continues on his track record, could be the best deal in the NHL in 3 years from now. But other players on the team will ask for more. Hence why he's probably worth 7 to 7.5m$ form now to 2 years, but may be more down the line. Who knows. With a healthy Dach who was actually able to make other better, he may be the other winger they need down the road.

Yeah, in 2 years, I don't see them bringing him in now. They'll want him to develop and sign him when others are into their first or second year of big pay days like Ghule, Reinbacher, Slaf etc.. So I have a feeling they don't want to rush it and let him finish school.

LMAO! 3 deep on RHD... Yeah.. this year.. And Aho isn't helping, Bortuzzo is also not a great one, 35 and UFA at the end of the season, and Isles have 2 RHD in AHL.. Do you know the value of RHD in the NHL?
Do you know who Patrick Roy is? Do you know how he values effort and RHD Dmen who can play good in an lower than average team like the Habs right now?
Saying they don't need a player like Kovacevic who's not at his full potential and already providing something to the bottom Habs is like saying you don't need a puck to play hockey. Isles need RHD's at low cost and good return on investment. Kovacevic could be a good fit for Roy's style.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Matt1567</b></div><div>I know how stupid this sounds but lowkey I'd rather we keep Armia and move Andy or Gally if possible (unlikely), if not then don't sign marchessault. Armia has been probably the best he's ever been lately and can be a 3rd liner at this level easily. As bad as he's been, Anderson can't continue being this unluck, and I think if nobody wants him now (which I doubt anyone does) then keep him, no need to dump him and his value only goes up as his contract nears end</div></div>
Problem with that is that while I like the Armia of the past month, I can't remember Armia from the past 3 years other than one good month per season. Hence why I would trade him out while he's able to bring something in instead of nothing if goes back to is old self around TDL..
