How to move in draft and summer

Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2024
Published: Apr. 8, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I drop Anderson to the rafters. Too bad.

I see if ANA are open to trade get some picks, and still get a good return with Kovacevic and hopefully an healthy Dvorak for Groulx and Luneau.

I trade Barron to NYI to help replace two older players.

And sign Marchessault for 3 years at 8.5M$.

This does nothing good for the Habs except bring in Luneau, which Anaheim likely passes on anyways

Signing Marchy would be a disaster and thinking this team would compete is another disaster. Just accept the tank for another year and then start being mad about still rebuilding in 2026

Isles have Mayfield, Dobson and Pulock on the right side. We have no need for Barron rn

The Ducks are extremely high on Luneau so you'd have to offer up a lot better than that to pry that kid out of Anaheim. They traded Drysdale in part because they have Luneau.

I would trade Groulx for Kovacevic because it's unlikely that either Luneau or Warren is ready next season. Then you get to keep the picks. Exchanging Luneau for Kovacevic makes no sense for Anaheim, who need additional quality and depth on the right.

99.999% of the teams indicate this as having a depth chart. Mayfield was out LITR, so adding a new younger player with offensive awareness while being groomed to up his defensive side by someone like Roy would be a + for the Isles. Bortuzzo is 35, and play 20 games a year.

Anyone who knows Roy will understand he's a coach who likes building players up starting with something positive. Barron has shown great skills in terms of offense for a Dman, his defensive skills are to be tweaked, but Roy is the type of coach who could hammer it into him. Habs do have more than needed, and would most likely trade well with the Isles. For a 2nd draft pick while he was a late first isn't much to give for a player with his potential. Most Dmen develop around 26yrs old, he's young and has size which is a plus when thinking like Roy.

Maybe add WIN 2st to that trade? IF .. and only IF Luneau would be something ANA would look at trading.. I know it's along shot..

Mayfield is ready next season and the trade deadline is over, he is signed long term. So is Pulock. Dobson is top five in Norris odds and is an RFA next season. How does this make any sense?

I like Barron and if we didn't have Mayfield id honestly do this, but it makes no sense for us

Point taken.

Not going against it... Just trying things out, see how they could play out.

But, I'm not sure about the Marchesseault comment. While he's not a big guy, he still produced more than 40 goals and has a few games left. Taking him on at that salary for 3 years wouldn't be a disaster, it would be prepping the younger guys, giving them another leader in the room who can produce. If Dach is finally healthy (hoping they gave him the year off to fully recup like they did for Monahan) that line would be something to see. They may even compete with Suzuki's line. He could also cost less, depends on how much value Vegas have for him and keep him around.

He may also take less to stay in Vegas... Nicer weather, taxes, and everything else .. I would.. LOL!

I like him as a player but someone is going to overpay on him for years that he may never repeat away from Vegas. Id rather keep that cap space and use it the next year in FA or use it to target Guentzel.

If he's willing to take a discount, sure but that's not likely
