nope, you can dump the contracts of gardiner, hainsey, lindholm, marincin, and possibly garrett sparks and/or tyler ennis, altough sparks is the least likely to go imo. you could also move the zaitsev and brown contracts in the offseason. plus, sandin, moore are locks for next season, and possibly grundstrom as well. we'll be okay.

Keep Liljegren, he'll be better than either StL dmen (hopefully) come 5 years from now when M n' M may be ready to compete for the Cup.Patience. TBay have been Cup winners every year for the past 3-4 seasons, on paper(Ovi and the Caps also should have 2-3 Cups by now, on paper), but regular season and playoff season is totally different.</div></div>
lol what? we outshot the best team in the nhl 49-21 thursday night, and they apparently have the best d-core in the league lmfaoooo. stay off the weed

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>its not bad. what about parayko, kyrou, 3rd for nylander, liljegren, 1st?
kyrou and liljegren are very debatable but I think Parayko is worth a little more than Nylander in terms of trade value. and that's maybe a drop from 25ish to 65ish in the draft, nothing huge.</div></div>
i think having just signing nylander, i dont think he'll be traded. but, its a decent counter proposal. i figured adding both kappy and johnsson would equal the value of a nylander. ones already a top 6, and one could be a potential top 6 with the right linemates. but, totally fair to ask for nylander

honestly, kappanen and johnsson are easily replaceable. we have plenty of wingers in the marlies, 2-3 easily ready for call-up no problem. we're good

why would kadri be the odd man out? cap increases to 83M, plus gards, hainsey and hopefully par lindholm gone, gives us plenty of space to sign matthews and marner. were good.

Using Stephens drops from team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Kadri is an expensive 3rd line C who can be replaced with someone 2-3 million $ cheaper and or Marleau(who can't be traded) can be penciled in as the 3rd C, for the Leafs have lots of depth on the wings. Plus Kadri's 3 game suspension in last year's playoffs cost the Leafs a playoff round win.</div></div>
kadri??? expensive??? lmfaooooo he had 32 goals in 2017-18 and is getting paid only 4.5 as a second line centre at the time. yep, lets have our oldest player play centre, when he can barley keep up as a winger. kadri's suspension was not the big factor as to why we lost, matthews didn't show up (well, most of the top 6) and inconsistent defence. can't say if kadri would've made a difference but we'll never know. but as far as I'm concerned, kadri is a very cheap contract, considering the versatility he has, along with the ability to shut down top line centres. but yes, trade the biggest and most important piece of the bottom 6. naz's line i super important to the leafs system, and trading him would be absolutely foolish.

1. not gonna move kadri or nylander
2. which team would want ziatszev, he's absolute garbage
3. we have young defencemen in the system (sandin, liljedgren) ready for nhl play next season.
4. with hainsey also leaving, gives us a bit more cap space, not to mention the increase to 83m next season.
although i dont agree with what he's done here, my points still stand

connor brown - where offence goes to die
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Us Leaf fans have it so good that some of us expect every player to be an elite offensive threat. Lol
Brown is a great penality killer who can chip in with the odd goal while playing very responsible minutes anywhere he's needed. This is a great thing to have.</div></div>
unfortunately, he's sucking the absolute life out of nazem kadri. connor brown has the worst shooting stats out of all of our forwards. for naz to be effective, he needs a shooting winger, and brown doesnt deliver. id rather see brown on the 4th but i doubt that will happen.

yep, because everyone knows the more points a player puts up, makes them better than the players that didn't score as many points as they did.
in this case, that means mikko rantanen > connor mcdavid

It's entirely possible that Philly trades him, and just as possible that they package him with Ghost for Nylander and a first and a 2nd and a defenseman and a top prospect.</div></div>
use your advanced stats, i study them as well. also, the number of 30 goal seasons you've had doesn't determine the value a player you are today. its your production today, that determines your value, today. as far as the rest of the package is concerned, we wont be giving up all of that with nylander i could tell you that right now. a more realistic package is nylander, brown, and a late round pick (4th or lower). thats it.

as far as value is concerned nylander = ghost. he's not a superstar, and neither is ghost. if anything, outsiders looking in on the leafs treat william like a superstar, along with toronto media giving him attention.

trading zaitsev pt2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Why would you move Liljegren? He's the Leafs top prospect and fills a massive need they have moving forward which is right handed defenceman. If you are trading Zaitsev for a cap dump send him somewhere he would be needed. Like Vancouver or something, they have very little depth on defence and would likely take Zaitsev for a 4th rounder or something. But packaging him with our best prospect for a different average defenceman seems really wasteful.</div></div>
you cant just trade zaitsev away for a 4th rounder. as a leafs fan, i can tell you that zaitsev has little to no value at all. so yeah, trading him for a 4th makes sense right? well you would think, as easy as that trade is to make, he carries 4.5M for the next 5 years after this one, with a NTC. i can say without a doubt, hes got the worst contract on the active leafs roster. you have to add a player of value AND retain salary in order to move that contract. zaitsev plays decent in his own end but is utterly useless in the offensive zone. hes very inconsistent with breakout passes that result in turnovers. his BIG problem is his ability to move the puck as a defencemen. hes almost compareable to vinne leino in buffalo a few years back. signed a 6 x 4.5AAV back in 2011, after his peak season in philly, bought out after his 3rd year of the deal. not saying zaitsev is gonna get bought out anytime soon, but its a very realistic outcome within the next 2-3 seasons. moral is, you have to add value to zaitsev, you cant send him on his own. vancouver isnt going to willingly take a medicore defencemen with little to no puck moving skills, while having an NTC and paying him 4.5M for the next 5 years. just not gonna happen.

signing william nylander and trading nikita zaitzsev amp connor brown
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>kind of seems like TO is giving a lot to Chicago and not getting much back in return. Liljegren is the Leafs top prospect currently, I'd want way more in return than Murphy who is just an average middle paid defenceman. Those are not hard to obtain and really are a low risk high reward type of addition. I am not against moving Zaitsev but there are definitely teams who'd be willing to take his contract on for way less than this package.</div></div>
thats fair. think my reasoning behind murphy, is really more or less getting justin holl into the lineup. i like how zaitzsev can play in his own end, and he has been reliable this year for that, but we both know how much babs loves puck moving defensemen who are right handed. so having said that, having justin holl in the lineup along side another puck moving defensemen in ron haisney, gives us a bit more skill on the back-end. i will admit, its tough trying to trade this contract and get the value right. safe to say an nhl gm job is nowhere in my future lol

signing william nylander and trading nikita zaitzsev amp connor brown
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>In what universe is Connor Murphy worth more than at the very most a 2nd round pick? Liljegren is a 1st rounder from 2 seasons ago who was supposed to be a top 2 pick until Mono derailed his draft year. Now before you mention Zaitsev being a cap dump, someone would take him for a lot less than this. Player for player Murphy isn't better than Zaitsev, they are both 2nd or 3rd pair defenceman.</div></div>
zaitsev was touted as a fantastic passer from the KHL and the leafs haven't seen any glimpse of that since coming over. zaitsevs contract is one of the worst in hockey, you have to stack value and retain salary in order to move a contract like that. also, chicago already is a disaster on defence, so giving them a young d prospect in lillegren, with boqvist already in their system, they can start building for the future post duncan and seabrook, also zaitszev gives the blackhawks options to experiment with their d. the leafs on the other hand, get to utilize justin holl, who can actually move the puck effectively, have calle rosen and/or rasmus sandin (who i think is better than liljegren, now) in the system ready for next years team, connor murphy back from injury, who is a former first round pick.
