Mittelstadt goes Wild
Finally someone with a reasonable offer for Mitts.
Mitts is a very well-liked player in the locker room and by the organization, so it would take a lot for BUF to pull the trigger on a trade.
And yes, he has shown over the past 2 years that he can excel as a 1C. He would be a great fit next to Kaprizov and he is a Minny boy, so this could make sense.
The only thing is BUF is looking for a D-man more than a F.
BUF may have more suitable offers on the table, or just keep him as he is arguably their best F.

1. Tage

How does anyone missing time have anything to do with "average" ice time?

Not true. He's led all forwards in 5v5 ATOI all season, even before Tage went down against BOS.

He is just entering his prime. Going younger is a good way to ensure more losing. The typical Buffalo way is to develop players, then trade them in their prime.

Kulich isn't even NHL ready. Trading your leader in points for a 1st round pick, that you then need to wait 5 years for maybe getting close to Mitts' production is a great way to start another rebuild. $6mm would be a steal. Try $7.1mm.

The talent is there... but it's missing something to make it mesh I guess.</div></div>
Simply not true. The Sabres are just way tooooo young. Young teams don't win in the NHL. The rebuild isn't even close to plateauing. We've still got 4 1st round picks not even on the team and another 3 just playing in their rookie years, and a total of 8 players 22 or under.
Add in the ton of injuries this year: Tuch, Tage, Skinner, Quinn, Greenway.....

Of course they want to compete. The best way to do that is to keep rookies off the team.

"TT, Tuch, Skinner, Cozens, Mitts, JJP, Benson, Kulich, savoie, ostlund, Quinn and Rosen. "
Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund and Rosen aren't even NHL players yet. They are all 20 or under. I'm guessing they will all be in the AHL next year, getting recalled due to injury.
Suddenly 12 players becomes 8.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zackhendo</b></div><div>Well it's a contradiction because people (not neccesarily you.. although you did like the post) are saying "Nothing in that trade is a need for the Sabres, so while he's a high end prospect for Vancouver he's another body in an already deep forward prospect group in Buffalo. Sabres don't need 1sts and prospects. Get a top 4 RD with those pieces and move that for Mittelstadt".
Do you see the part, again, where it says 'Sabres don't need 1sts and prospects'.
So when they are other teams' firsts and prospects they are worthless but when they are the Sabres you're 'not going to toss them around like $5 bills'.
First rounders are the currency of the NHL. It's like if you had a car and wanted a truck but instead of selling your car for cash and buying a truck you only wanted to trade it for a truck. That obviously limits your available market and is very likely going to result in not getting top value for your car.
Regardless I don't think Mittlestadt is a fit for the Canucks team at all so we can all happily go our seperate ways.</div></div>
BUF needs to get older, not younger. We've already got 1sts and prospects. We've already sold our cars for cash. We're shopping for a truck.

Yea, well, I mean 5th round draft picks very rarely pan out. From the 2014-2018 drafts, there are a grand total of 21 players (out of 152) that have played 82 career NHL games.

"<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quote:</div>And what's the chances of the Sabres entering re-tool/re-build?</div>
Basically Zero. Sure the coach or GM could be fired, that would be the most that you would see and I doubt that happens.
The Sabres have all the major pieces. They are just young/inexperienced. It's a team full of U23s.
And they still have more top draft picks coming up in Kulich, Rosen, Savoie, and Ostlund and Wahlberg. Wahlberg is not really available, as BUF doesn't really have any other prospects like him.
The Sabres are taking the patient approach, and after so many rebuilds, it's the right approach- much to the dismay of AGM's on CapFriendly.
