The #1 Dman will be worth more than the #1 Winger for 2 reasons. Laine is REALLY good, but he's going to ask for more than Chabot will and Chabot will most likely have a bigger impact night in and night out.

Elite defensemen are rarer than Elite wingers. The only reason for a team to trade their elite D-man is if there's a lot of bull**** within the organization or they have a lot of good D-men. (Nashville could afford to lose Girard and Jones because they have Subban, Ellis, Ekholm, Josi, Fabbro)
