Description
Over the past few months I have thought of what this team might look like next year.....changes are coming and are needed

Marleau - retired - great player but the playoffs showed the game has passed him by

Gardiner - will move on as UFA unless the Leafs find away to move ALOT of money out. I could live with a 4 yr @ $6M for Jake if we find a way to make it happen. Unlikely to happen and he will get more $$$ elsewhere

Kadri - his role changed this year with JT taking on the role against other team's #1C. His passion is great but production and discipline are concerning. Move him

Hainsey - I would bring him back if price was right approx $1M

Nylander - needs to go. plays on the perimeter and should have been traded when he held out. You can't afford to have him, Matthews, JT and Marner.....your cap will be unbalanced. Johnsson and Kapanen have out played him. If you keep Willy one or both of those guys will have to go

Sparks - will be gone. Not good enough and sounds like he wasn't a good fit in the room

Others:

Z and OZ.....we will see what happens with them. Zaitsev was pretty solid in the playoffs

Ennis - I like him.....good value on that contract

Moore - will move up next year.

Guathier - made a ton of progress. Decent #4C

Brown - might be a cap casualty

NJ is in ZERO danger of not reaching the cap floor, not sure where that comes from – they need to sign 10 additional players with a combined cap hit of $13m to reach it, and Zacha / Butcher extensions should get them more than half-way. They'll take on a contract for a good prospect though, I just don't know enough about Ozhiganov to know if it's a good deal for them.

William Nylander wasn't worth his contract this year. He scored 7 goals in 54 games and has a half point per game pace. That's mediocre for a 3rd line player. The team should have traded him straight up for Pesce a year ago, but now he doesn't have as much value as Pesce imo. Larsson is a good target because I consider him a lesser player than Pesce, but I don't think you'd get Poolparty in that deal as well unless you add picks. Connor Brown and Garret Sparks have next to no value.

Columbus wants nothing to do with Kadri. Jenner is a much better team player, who doesn’t take stupid penalties that get him suspended for the entire playoffs. Yes, Kadri is the better player, but we don’t want him because of the fact that he take selfish penalties that hurt the team.

Game passed Marleau by?? Hyman and Marleau were the 2 best players in game 7. Muzzin showed up. Couldn't tell Nylander from Moore.

Gardiner was one of the best players for Boston. Andersen made great saves and let in a couple softies.

Nylander no doubt didn't live up to his contract and he's paid to be a top 6 forward but half a point per game isn't mediocre for a 3rd line player it's pretty average or good even, there isn't many 3rd line players that produce much better than at half a point a game.
