Description
With a top-heavy line-up...seems obvious the Dubas is looking to fill the bottom 6 and bottom pairing D with entry level/league min contracts.

I don't see anything wrong with that. I'd be all for getting some vets signed either to league min or on a PTO if they're still around near the end of the summer.

Guys like McQuaid, Moulson, Kruger, etc can battle in camp with the Bracco's, Agostino's, Harpur's, Holl's, Borgman's, etc.

Give Babcock options to fill out the roster with whatever he thinks fits and the rest can get shipped to the Marlies or lost to waivers.

I look to a guy like Trevor Moore last year. He was a bulldog every chance he got on the ice because he was hungry to prove he should stick. Gimme a bottom half of the lineup with guys who will go to war every shift because they know there's someone ready to bleed to takeover their spot.

Couldn’t agree more with your description. Just gotta make sure you don’t give Babs any toys either. Like I mentioned in the other thread, yes you get that bulldog mentality from a guy like Moore. At the same time if you can see a glance of poise and patience... maybe there is something worth investigating there.

A third line Hyman(Mikheyev)-Kerfoot-Kapanen would be solid defensively, I think. A real checking line, of the kind we haven't had for two years, and that can strike from time to time. Then Spezza centering the fourth line is quite an improvement, in terms of face-offs and stability.

I don't think people realize how much the team has improved already. Ceci is roughly the equivalent of Zaitsev, but as much as I liked Gardiner, Barrie is probably even better, and of the "right side".

The 'toys' comment is very accurate. I think we'll see a few different lineups over the first few months while Dermott/Hyman get healthy. A guy like Kerfoot is great as you can slot him into any position in the middle six.

I think I'd rather my press box filled with 2-3 vets on min. contracts that can get plugged in when needed..but if Babs ends of using them over younger, more skilled options it might not be ideal.

That is the trick isn’t it, I would hate to see young guys in the press box for two reasons. They aren’t being developed and have a harder time jumping into action when called upon where as a vet player would have little issue.
