Why Edmundson plus a line up with no trade

Cet échange ne fait pas de sens pour moi.

Le CH n'a obtenu que les droits d'Edmundson : des droits pour 3 semaines environ avant l'ouverture des marchés.

Dans 3 semaines donc, Edmundson est agent libre sans compensation. Quel est l'intérêt de payer un 5e choix pour un 3 semaine d'exclusivité dans les négos?

D'abord, est-ce que les Hurricanes auraient refusé un 7e choix pour cela alors qu'ils n'auraient pas resigné ce joueur de toute façon? J'en doute, c'est un choix "gratis" pour eux dans tous les cas.

Puis, plus fondamentalement, Edmundson pourrait très bien ignoré les offres de Bergevin et attendre le 3 semaine pour signer ailleurs. Il demeure sans restriction et si MTL ne l'intéresse pas au plan personnel ou financier, il ne signera pas. Il a été twitter (par David Pagnotta) que le CH "did not have any contract talks with Edmundson & his camp prior to acquiring him". Il n'y a donc aucune conversation préalable qui aurait bien pu indiquer à Bergevin que Edmundson pourrait être intéressé par MTL.

Sinon, acquérir un gaucher qui potentiellement jouerait sur une 3e pair (et en infériorité surtout) est logique même si un plus gros échange ne se profile pas à l'horizon. Mete, Kulak ou Edmundson lui même serait pousser à droite. Mais, pour terminer comme j'ai commencé, ce joueur n'est même pas acquis, que ses 3 semaines de droit le sont...

Le seul avantage de signer Edmundson avant le jour du marché des joueurs autonomes c'est d'éviter les surenchères. Peut-être que Bergevin en présentait. Mais Edmundson peut attendre et tester le marché néanmoins s'il en présent aussi. Donc un 5e choix pour rien de tangible

tl dr the french : a 5th for 3 weeks of pre-nego doesn't make sense. MTL did not have any contract talks with Edmundson & his camp prior to acquiring him. Maybe Edmundson doesnt want to sign in MTL or just wants to test the market. Therefore a wasted pick

"Ne fait pas de sens" est un anglicisme, "n'a pas de sens" est la bonne formulation. Par contre, je suis tout à fait d'accord avec toi.

I don't know if I like the move either, but having said that I think the trade sends the following message to Edmundson -this team wants me.

No other teams can negotiate with Edmundson, so now MTL can set a price without having to worry about what other teams are offering. Sure Edmundson can wait, but they would be taking a risk when MTL has already shown they are fully invested by the gesture of trading for his negotiation rights. Also Edmundson has played the last two years out on 1 yr deals, gotta think he wants some term and security.

I don't know how this is going to shake out, but I can see the value in identifying a player you want and trading for his negotiating rights. Whether or not this is the player the habs should have identified is another thing, but we will have to wait and see.

Alzner 2.0 et je n'exagère pas. Minnesota à obtenu plus pour un 7e conditionnel (en Bjugstad) que le CH avec un 5e.

On ne signe même pas nos choix de 5e ronde anyway . Regarde cette année ... fonstad, Mcshane, Houde. On s’en fou de perdre ce choix s’il ne signe pas . Justement , si cela nous permet de le signer sans surenchère , c’est un excellent trade .
