I don’t follow either of these team super close, so I could be wrong. But this trade seems to make so much sense.
Nylander is a couple years younger and signed for one extra year. But he’s also a little bit more expensive. I’m assuming Minnesota wants a center back for Dumba, so they would need to feel comfortable about moving Nylander to center permanently for this to work.
The chatter around Toronto has been about finding Reilly a partner, but I think Muzzin-Dumba could be a great shut-down pair and free up Reilly for more offensive opportunities.
Maybe there’s a more elaborate form of this trade too. Something like Dumba + Eriksson Ek for Nylander and Dermott. Toronto gets a shut-down 3C and Minnesota gets a replacement defenseman.
Again, I don’t follow these teams super close so the value could be off a bit. I’d be interested to hear what Toronto and Minnesota fans think.
Not a big fan of this. Dumba isnt strong on the defensive end like Toronto needs in a defenseman. Trading Nylander for Dumba is just doubling down on the Barrie model which failed so spectacularly this season. A lot of people like trading Dumba to Toronto on these forums but hes the wrong model of defenseman for the Leafs needs.
