I believe the only way to solve the 1C/2C debacle is to build through the draft. Rarely do those types of players become available on the trade market and the free agent market. The aspirations of the Wild acquiring Anthony Cirelli, Matthew Barzal, or Aleksander Barkov, are pipe dreams. Teams with proven 1C’s will do anything to keep them. The Wild need to focus on the draft.

There are quality centers in the top 10 that will be available. That is a good starting point. I have the Wild taking Anton Lundell because he will be the one most likely available at pick 9 and he can play with the Wild next year, according to many scouts.

In regards to buyouts, no need for the Wild to force a buyout this year. They will not compete and it’s better to eat a year of the contracts of Dubnyk and Rask. Dubnyk’s contract expires after next year and Rask is a center on a team that doesn’t have many.

This team also has many key RFAs to re-sign after 2020-2021, including Kaprizov and Fiala. No need to spend big money in free agency this offseason nor waste cap space on buyouts.

The Wild add to the thin pipeline of centers. With Nolan Patrick hopefully coming back, and Couturier and Hayes taking up the top two lines for the foreseeable future, PHI can afford to make a move like this to win now.

If all Frost would cost is Greenway, he’d already be wearing a Wild uniform. A player of his potential will cost Brodin or Dumba. Greenway could be used to fill the hole caused by that departure.
