Part 2 : Anaheim Ducks, by @KakkoForMauriceRichardAward and I
The trade : The Anaheim Ducks traded Shea Theodore to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Ducks did not receive any tangible asset in return. Instead, the Knights agreed to select Clayton Stoner from the Ducks in the expansion draft in order to not select Sami Vatanen and Josh Manson, both left unprotected.

The context : Anaheim was a bit in a cap crunch at the time of the trade and was a playoffs team for multiple years, so they needed NHL ready players more than prospects and, most importantly, needed to get rid of bad contracts. Vegas, on the other hand, as a freshly created franchise, took a look at the future and picked up a nice compensation in order to take the bad contract that was Stoner.

Anaheim side : Theodore would be their bona-fide #1 defenseman and would form an excellent first pairing with Hampus Lindholm, if placed on the right side. With Montour and Vatanen both gone, and Manson's decreased offensive production, Theodore could have filled their biggest current need.

Vegas side : Theodore was a highly-valued prospect/young gun with only 53 games under his belt, but I doubt Vegas had guessed that he would become the Norris caliber defenseman that he is now. Former Vegas GM George McPhee could have realistically taken one of Vatanen or Manson, and their defensive group would have looked like :
