habs. a lot of money and years tied up in old player and players making more than they should. and a gm who doesn't have a clue what he's doing but seems to have the confidence of management.

Almost every bad contract falls off this year, they have 8 picks in the first three rounds, have cap space during a slow cap move period. They are rebuilding, but they will have Guenther, Hayton, Soderstrom in their pool. They are terrible right now, but primed to have a very short rebuild.

Guenther will be a stud and they’re rebuilding the right way.

Their bad contracts are short-term, they have plenty of high draft picks and interesting young pieces (Guenther, Söderström, Hayton, Chychrun, Keller, Timmins). People were expecting them to be ass this season - it was part of their plan *cough* unlike my Habs.

100%. Pretty much Ottawa 2.0 without Eugene Melnyk. The arena issue is the big bogey with all of this. Honestly, I can't see them moving any time in the near future, but the question mark there will give pause to a lot of UFA's.

End of the day-They can can outspend just about anyone moving forward, and have a bounty of picks (and should have more going forward, given the likelihood of them taking on more bad contracts with assets attached this offseason).

They should be ready to make a big splash riggggght about the same time as Matthews and Marner become UFA's
