You are not getting that value for Hoffman

-Over the last 3 years, 25 year old Anthony Beauvillier has put up a 45-56-101 line in 190 regular season GP(0.53 pts/GP), along with 14-13-27 in 41 playoff games. He's got 2x$4.15M left on his deal.
Over the last 3 years, 27 year old Jonathan Drouin has put up 15-43-58 in 105 regular season GP(0.55 pts/GP), along with 1-6-7 in 10 playoff games. He's got 1x$5.5M left, retained down to 1x$4.5M here.

So the Islanders are getting a player who produces at basically the same rate, except he's older, less reliable, and costs more. Throwing a 3rd round pick in there isn't going to be enough to get them to bite on this one, though it might get you Josh Bailey (and you can even knock the retention off in that case!)

-Do me a favor and tell me what Oliver Bjorkstrand (27 years old, 4x$5.4M, 28 goals/82 GP average over the past 4 seasons) and Max Pacioretty (33 years old, 1x$7M, 154 pts in 158 GP over the last 3 seasons) got back in trades this summer, and then explain to me why 2x$4.5M of Mike Hoffman (32 years old, 4 straight years of declining production) gets back not only a 2nd rounder, but one of Nashville's top prospects?

-If Dadonov's NTC completely killed a trade to Anaheim, what makes you think that he's going to take a trade to Arizona? Moreover, what is -Arizona- going to do with him? Hold on to him until the deadline, retain, and send him out for an asset then instead.
