Description
Just curious if you think this is a possibility. I have this happening in the off-season so he’ll have 3 years left at $10.5M.

Salary cap *might* go up by $7M this summer according to reports. Hawks are going to be losing some salary with Kane and Toews off the books. They’re not trying to compete for 2-3 more years which means they’ve got tons of room to make this happen.

Montreal on the other hand I think is trying to compete as soon as next year and could use the cap relief for the offseason big fish.

Curious about your thoughts.

Carey Price will be on LTIR and IF he comes back, we get our starting goalie back
So MTL don’t consider moving him

Ok that’s even worse then, why would a rebuilding team trade a 1st for a 10.5M sitting on LTIR ?

If he's LTIRetired then Montreal isn't going to move a pick to clear his contract, let alone a 1st. They don't need the cap space next season even if they aren't planning to still rebuild (and its pretty likely that they are). His contract is insured and they can just keep him on IR next season.

If they were to move him it would be a Weber-like trade.

I get it. I was thinking along the lines of clearing the $10.5M which would make it easier for them to be cap compliant and active players in the free agency if they felt they could be playoff ready for 23-24 season. I also asked for Florida’s 1st, not Montreal’s so you’d still have a top 10 pick.

I also am not concerned if it’s insured or not. I was strictly doing this from a salary cap management position.
