Orlov wants 6 years... i believe if he was willing to do 4 years at a lesser cap hit than he is at currently he would still be a Capital by now

I don't see a team giving him 6 years, it's just not logical. He can want all he likes, it has to be both sides that agree

Let's see, I know there is a lot of talk about brining Hayes into Columbus due to connections with current players.
And he is a solid center (2C at best, now in this league).
He is a big guy, at 6'5", the type of frame that the Jackets love, since he takes up a ton of space on the ice.
That being said, he plays a lot more like a marshmallow than a bulldog (he averages about 20-30 PIMS per year in his career), and doesn't really stand up for his teammates like a guy that size should.
He is a lot like a guy we already have, in Laine, in that regard.
Oh, and his faceoff % over 10 full seasons topped 50% only 3 times. So he doesn't really bring much in that regard either.

Personally, i would probably want to target another solid 2C option with better physicality and faceoff prowess than Hayes.

But if i had to offer, I would give a couple 2nds and 3rds, or mid-level prospects like Foudy, Bemstrom, etc. or D men.
If it came down to a 1st, I'm not sure I would part since this is a deep draft (2023) and the LA pick might be in the 20-27 range.

With $2.5M retained, I'd do something around:

- 2024 '2nd
- Roslovic (He needs to get moved to make room for Hayes, and I don't think he is long for CBJ anyway);
- Liam Foudy (He desparately needs a fresh start elsewhere, and Danforth would slot in for him);

The fit is there with CBJ - we could use a 2C/3C (assuming our 1C is a Bedard/ Fantilli, please god), and he could play with his old buddy Johnny Hockey, so I think he'd be willing to waive his M-NTC, or perhaps not have CBJ on his list. Would be nice to have Bedard/ Fantilli - Hayes - Sillinger - Kuraly down the middle. Jenner (will he stay at C, or go back to W?) and Voronkov (will he be NHL ready on day one?) are going to be the wild cards, IMO, but I wouldn't mind sending Sillinger down to the AHL long-term to have him rebound. It's still borderline criminal CBJ have yet to do that.

But, I don't think any team in the league takes Hayes on without retention (sorry, but no one is letting PHI off that easily), and though he has had a solid rebound year, it doesn't mask some of his inconsistencies, and poor defensive play. All for a dude on the wrong side of 30.
