One stop shop for the Devils 55 for futures

I cannot IMAGINE the canny Steve Yzerman paying the 15th-18th overall pick in this year's draft (HARDLY a "late 1st") for one year of Mark Scheifele, not to mention the 42nd overall selection, too.

Detroit passes, Not giving up young assets and picks for a 30 year old Centerman who we can just sign for free in 2024, Steve Yzerman was Mark Scheifele's idol growing up plus he was a Diehard Red Wings fan and Andrew Copp is his best friend. Sounds like a perfect partnership in 2024 as a free agent.

Fat chance i see Blake wheeler and Connor Hellebuyck waiving for NJ. I seriously doubt that the NJD are on Wheeler's 4 team trade list. And there are rumblings that after his wife gave birth to their first child. That Connor Hellebuyck wants to play closer to home. Would love to see a Helly/Cossa duo in the coming years in Detroit.

Scheifele to Detroit isn't happening as explained by @OldNYIfan and @HockeyIsMyPassion61. Which is a good thing because you're better off keeping Scheifele and not signing Towes.

The pick position remains to be seen. If it’s a mid teens pick the value is different then if it’s a pick in the 20s for sure.

Just wanted to hear from Detroit fans if there was interest in bringing him in or if they still feel the team is a couple years away.

I think 55 would for sure consider Detroit as a UFA. I think the Jets trade him somewhere he’d like to go this offseason so if that is somewhere other than Detroit he likely doesn’t see free agency. Just like Red Wings fans were sure that Trouba would just sign there as a UFA. If you don’t make a play for the player there is someone else that will.

Last offseason when we stripped the C off him it was rumoured he was willing to expand the list and at this point in his career winning is the most important thing so I think he does waive for the Devils. We’ll have to agree to disagree on if they’d go or not. I think they will and that Helle would extend in Jersey. If you wanted to talk a trade for 37 we could do that but it feels like the preference is just to hope for the best in free agency.
