Soderblom isn't on the market, Yzerman is trying to build a bigger team upfront. So we take the deal minus Soderblom.

That is not enough for the Hawks deal. Joseph is a negative (for sure to the Hawks) of honestly more than a 2nd for them to take him. 3 more years at 3 million each for a 4th liner is not the sort of piece a tanking/rebuilding team is interested in. At that salary, he is not flippable in the near term and a guy a tanking team don't want around to either help win games or block icetime on lower lines for kids to audition/develop. Probably need a prospect like Ostapchuk to create any interest from the Hawks or remove Joseph.

Those Sens fans think they're entitled to at least as much in trade as what the Sens (over)paid last summer. Virtually all trades are to the Wings because they have cap. Yzerman isn't in the business of helping the Sens with their cap or replenishing their draft picks.
