Yes Matthews to Chicago. is possibility in summer of 2024 when he is a UFA. But he is a very unlikely summer trade, due to his expiring contract and high cap.

Well if the deal went through (I don't think the Leafs accept), it's only an add 3m to the cap, and Nylander might fetch a nice return at TDL. CBJ would love this deal.

Slap an extension on Matthews. The trade would probably have the 2023 1st and someone like foligno also going to make the cap work. So would be rossi, boldy, foligno 2023 1st and a 2nd for him with an extension. I think that would be a more fair value trade.

As it is neither team would make the trade 1 year of Matthews for all that. Minnesota couldn’t afford it and it would totally throw off the whole cap situation.
