Description
Take on cap dumps to add picks.
- Bailey is washed but a future 2nd could prove useful.
- Mantha is a cap dump, though not washed. He is big and could provide a veteran scoring punch to the lineup.
Deadline candidates:
- Tyler Johnson: would likely have to retain 50% to do so, but checks a lot of boxes for a deadline add for a contender.
- Sean Mohanan: We give him a shot to prove he can be a top 6 center again. Seems similar to me to the domi and athanasiou adds last year in terms of upside added.
- Jason Dickinson: Quality Bottom 6 forward - may fetch something depending on how he plays and what the market is for him. Likely an athanasiou scenario where there is a possibility that doesn't happen.
- Mantha: Likely 50% retained, but a big body with a decent track record could fetch something.
- Tinordi: Classic Veteran Big-D Depth play. May not be worth enough to deal, but cheap contract.

I don't see Murphy being dealt until maybe at the earliest 2024-25's Deadline. Too valuable of a piece to pair with a young D-man on the left side. Leader, etc. Unless a 1st is in play, or a deal too good, etc.

Additional Details:
27th pick for the 35th and 67th pick - They have made 11 picks in the last 3 years and have the worst prospect pool according to the athletic. This allows them to add an early 3rd only dropping 8 spots in a deep draft.
COL
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (CHI)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Not sure if the value is perfect here, but this deal is what I think our most likely 1st round trade will be. Taking advantage of a weakened prospect pool and our excess picks to get a higher quality pick. Would be fine if this was the Rangers 2nd round pick (55th) instead.

Don't see the Hawks taking on Mantha for just a 3rd. He really hasn't been healthy or that good since the 18-19 season in Detroit. And I definitely wouldn't put him on a line w/ 2 rookies. Rest of this seems very realistic though.

The reason the Avs have the worst prospect pool is because they don't really try to develop guys and graduate them to the NHL. This is especially true of their non 1st-round picks. The last of their own picks to have to go through the AHL to make it to the Avs was Rantanen and he was 10 OA. So, more picks might not be as enticing to them as just using that 1st to either get the very best player available and hope he turns into something or just use it to get what they need in the immediate. My guess is they make the pick.
