Description
I see suggestions from fans of other teams and my forehead hurts a lot from the frequent facepalms. I look forward to your opinions on this topic, dear friends. (I hope my version is good enough for sharks.)

EK will never get his full value because of the obvious factors against him:
- Expensive and long contract
- Limited destination NMC
- On the wrong side of 30.

Most moves will have no option but to return cap dumps or have heavy retention without it having any impact on the value.

Still, it should be easy to get back at least a first and solid prospect in the move. I would equate his value to roughly what Provorov got.

Contenders in windows with limited cap room, to add a little to a well written post.

Edited Jun. 26, 2023 at 4:43 a.m.. Reason: Roster players probably *will* go back for cap reasons, but probably not multiple quality starters.
You are asking for way too much. Despite being a great hockey player, he is an injury-prone 33 year old on a contract that everyone knew would likely be regrettable on its back end. He still has 4 years left. Taking him on for 9m AAV at this point in his career has serious risks.

That also completely ignores that so few teams could fit his cap hit, and most that could are not contending so they don't want him.

For a good return, you would need to retain half, and i would not expect multiple quality roster players and multiple 1st/2nd rounder picks even then. It may be easier to trade him after the cap goes up next year.

I’ve made ACGMs trading Karlsson for 25%ish retention and the return is quite decent because he will likely win the Norris this year.but the reality is he has too much risk attached to him. It seems he has gotten past his injury issues as far as we can tell, but he is still pretty old. Very likely he could reaggravate that injury at some point, and I think realistically the return will and should be underwhelming.

Erik Karlsson wants to go to a legit cup contender, Sorry Seattle isn't one yet with or without Karlsson.
