Quoting: Windjammer
Grzelcyk as an LHD has no value to Winnipeg.
Poitras is okay.
Swayman as an unproven goalie that lost his starters job, doesn't have a ton of value.
The Jets aren't taking 2 goalies in return for Hellebuyck.
Easy no for Winnipeg on both. Why would any team take 3 goalies in 2 trades.
Agree on the NJD trade being weird - I could see them taking back Vanecek (just because NJD wouldn't need him with Hellebuyck) but the prospect has to be different than another goalie.
Have to push back on Swayman "losing his starter's job" though - it's been pretty clear that both he & Ullmark were a clear 1/1A tandem since the beginning of last season. I think going from 39 starts in 2021-22 to 33 in 22-23 because your tandem partner won the Vezina isn't something I'm going to mark down as a negative on Swayman's scouting report - he still had a .920 SV% & 2.27 GAA last year.
Part of me wonders if you could merge this into one big 3-way trade?
WPG receives: 2024 1st, Matt Poitras, Jeremy Swayman (RFA rights), Vitek Vanecek, and [upgraded NJD prospect from Tyler Brennan]
WPG loses: Mark Scheifele (BOS), Connor Hellebuyck (NJD)
BOS receives: Mark Scheifele
BOS loses: Matthew Poitras, Matt Grzelcyk, Jeremy Swayman (RFA rights)
NJD receives: Connor Hellebuyck, Matt Grzelcyk (shelter for Luke Hughes this year)
NJD loses: Vitek Vanecek, [upgraded Brennan add], 2024 1st
Feels like NJ would need to send something to Boston to make it work, but I think there's an interesting thing happening with that.
