Description
Seattle’s not punting on this season just yet, their acquisition of Tomas Tatar is evidence of that. Even if they did, it would be a short term step back with the goal of reloading for next year. This means popular ACGM trade targets like Larsson and Borgen, among others, would not be on the block, as they’d play critical roles with the Kraken in any bounce back.

In my mind the most likely Kraken blue liner to be traded is Schultz. Ryker Evans has looked really good since his NHL call up and appears to be a more natural fit on the power play, so trading Schultz would open up more playing time for him. Schultz, meanwhile, would be a useful rental to several teams as a RHD who can produce offense and is mostly okay in his own end. I’ve sent him to Toronto here because Leaf fans have been the most persistent in churning out mock trades for Seattle’s other, much less available defensemen. The reality is if the Leafs complete a trade for one of the Kraken’s RHD this season, odds are it’s going to be for Schultz, not Larsson or Borgen. Schultz isn’t a perfect fit for them but his ability to step up his play come playoff time might be quite appealing.

As always, helpful feedback is welcome! Go Kraken and a Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate!

He's not the type of defenceman the Leafs are looking for or need. Borgen or Larsson would be better fits.

If Seattle doesn’t make it to the playoffs then Leafs will accept this trade.

Schultz really isnt the Dman Toronto is eyeing

Adam Larsson is basically the only guy of interest.

I don't know that that's an accurate assessment. I think they know it was house money to make the playoffs in year two and while sure it would be nice to do it again and they haven't punted yet, their sights should be (and likely are) set on the long term. They'd listen on guys like that.

Despite all these users saying that Schultz isn’t “the type” of player that Toronto is looking for, he is actually - just not the priority. They would like a right handed shot to replace Klingberg on the PP and Schultz would do that.

However they wouldn’t be interested in spending a lot to get him and they value their picks a lot right now. The 3rd would be off the table as they’ll likely have to use that to bring in a bigger defensive impact player & the 5th is a high 5th since it’s Chicago’s. If you could change the 3rd to a mid tier prospect and change the 5th to Toronto’s or Vancouver’s then a deal could be had.

Don’t forget that Seattle isn’t trading from a position of strength with Schultz since they have to make room for Ryker and Schultz is a pending UFA so the price or demand won’t be too high
