I agree that Tavares will take a big paycut for the good of the team but I bet that the number is closer to 2-3 years at 5 mil.

Nelson at age 34 getting a three year contract. The cap goes up for everyone, Signing lower players for now much more than the current minimum probably isn't enough to retain them.

Tavares isn't taking "scrapes" when guys like Nelson and Frederick get overpaid.

Assuming a scrape is less than a scrap I still think this is high for JT and I doubt he has a shot at a ring with this mostly overpaid lot. Also no chance Tavares can play on a top line with those two…he is pretty much a 3/4C FOGO by then.

I do love letting Marner walk though and am curious to see what he can get as a UFA. I don’t see him having the same cachet as Willy Styles.

Agreed. I could see him taking the same deal O’Rielly signed with the preds. Or potentially 5 mil at 2-3 years.
