Why would Detroit ever do that?

Savard wasnt the 1st time he got a 1st either
His Salary being Retained Twice made his cap low enough a contender overpaid for him.
It isnt that hard to repeat those circumstances especially if injuries happen to the right players like a Sergachev or a Doughty where they need someone but have limited Cap.

I mean i think its more likely he gets a 2nd , B+ Prospect and either a Prospect or Pick mid level for both
Something like Lavoie, 2nd and 4th round pick unless you find someone to RS a 2nd time because a Contender is willing to pay more like TBL did with Savard the first time stealing him from MTL.
If Bergavin wasnt to cheap and just matched it who knows where we'd be right now

Habs have no reason to do any of these and the value simply isn't there in any of those trades.

If Savard is traded it will be for a late 1st or 2nd + 3rd but Hughes has already said he has no plans on trading Savard.

Allen has more value without retention than RyJo does and Ranta doesn't even begin to make up the difference. If Allen gets traded it will be for a 3rd or 4th with no retention (2nd with retention)

Person will return about a 4th and Struble a 2nd, so take out Klotin and the 3rd add a 4th from Detroit and its even but the prospect isn't likely someone Hughes would be after cause he has stated multiple times they are looking for size and skill, a 5'10" forward doesn't have size.

IMO, here are the guys I think will move at the TDL or in the offseason

    Pearson for a 4th
    Armia for a 3rd
    Harris for a 2nd
    Struble for a 2nd
    Kovacevic for a 3rd
    Dvorak for 2nd + 3rd
    Primeau for a 2nd

If we go big fish shopping here are the guys who could be part of the package

Newhook, Barron, Ylonen, Anderson and to a lesser extent Dach along with any of our 1st round picks over the next 2 years depending on who is coming back.

A whole lot of nothing. Habs will just sit on their players. They have 11 picks the next 2 years in the first 3 rounds.

This is doing trades just to do random trades with little benefit and not enough contracts to go around.
