You aren’t getting positive value for arguably the worst contract in the league

Lindholm also doesn’t get anything close to that much money and CBJ can’t sign him for 8 years unless they trade for his rights

Columbus are not trading two of their most promising young players for Huberdeau while also using the cap space that they are going to need for said young players on Lindholm.

You could retain max on Huberdeau's contract and that would still be unacceptable to the Jackets. We're trying to have a larger competitive window than that, not try to shortcut it by handing out stupid money to Lindholm.
