Description
If Kotkaniemi is available, I think the Blues are one of the teams that might as well take a chance. His contract could really be brutal but at the same time it could work out. I think he just needs consistent minutes and linemates but he won't get that with Brind'Amour in Carolina. The rest of the moves are just for fun.

Blues fans, would you be interested in Kotkaniemi?

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
Additional Details:
Hayes can bring the same production to Carolina as KK and for 2 million instead of 4.8. I feel like for taking on this much salary, the Blues should receive more but for now this is the base of the deal.
CAR
  1. Hayes, Kevin ($1,571,429 retained)
2.
STL
  1. Borgen, William
  2. Kartye, Tye
  3. 2024 1st round pick (SEA)
  4. 2024 2nd round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
I've proposed this trade before but this has a few changes. It's just a hard trade to put a value on but I like the idea of it. Borgen would be a great add for the Blues and take some pressure off Parayko, Kartye could be a nice addition to the middle 6 as well. Buch would be an amazing fit with Seattle though (he would have to come with an extension in this trade).

Most importantly though the Blues move up from 16 to 9 to get one of Dickinson, Silayev, or Buium. On top of that the Blues get the 9th pick in the 2nd round which would be a nice addition.
SEA
  1. Buchnevich, Pavel
  2. 2024 1st round pick (STL)
3.
STL
  1. LaCombe, Jackson [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
The Ducks get a solid veteran top 4 defender retained down to 4.5 million. The Ducks have a plethora of LHD so LaCombe could be made available. Faulk might decline the trade but it could also happen the next year when is full NTC goes to a partial NTC. Thoughts?
ANA
  1. Faulk, Justin ($2,000,000 retained)

Faulk has a full NTC and is in decline, we're not interested in acquiring that contract when we can chase a RHD in free agency or trade for a much younger model.

Canes aren't going to move KK. They need to move Staal. KK's issue is that he's a great 3C. But Carolina have 3 of them. KK's infuriating because he's shown flashes of being a 2C, and he's got the tools, but he cannot put it together. Getting him consistent minutes with competent players will do him a world of good

The concept of the Seattle trade is interesting, but you are being too generous, and waaay too generous if Buch arrives extended. I also don't care for using up trade value on added pieces that are easy to get elsewhere or not really needed. Kartye is fun to watch, but he's not even as good as Torp and we have lots of youngsters that need ice time or will soon. I am actually a Borgen fan, but he's set for UFA in this scenario. It would need to be reworked, and honestly I'm not sure Seattle is up to trade down anyway.

The BIG issue with that is you can’t simply move Staal. He has a NMC. Not sure if you understand it but that means no movement without his consent. So he’s not going to waive it for teams that aren’t in the playoffs because he’s older and wants to win, so a “cap dump” isn’t possible. Also he’s 35 and will likely retire after winning a cup/or at the end of the contract. He also won’t want to leave NC if his whole family has lived here for 10ish years. I get the idea of moving on from him but it’s just not in the books.

He's got a buyout penalty of 200k... that's almost nothing through a year with a cap crunch. Try to move him, tell him if he doesn't waive he's losing half his contract, and then let him decide what to do. The cpa increases from then out cover the buyout
