*listed somewhat chronologically

Tampa Bay Lightnings
Sebastian Piche
2012 1st (Andrei Vasilevskiy)
Detroit Red Wings
Kyle Quincey

At the time I’m sure this made sense for Detroit, but this is Andrei Vasilevskiy for Kyle Quincey!

Washington Capitals
2012 1st (Filip Forsberg)
2012 2nd (Mike Winther)
Colorado Avalanche
Semyon Varlamov

Varlamov is a good goalie, but imagine an Avalanche top line of Forsberg/MacKinnon/Rantanen.

San Jose Sharks
2013 1st (Mirco Mueller)
Detroit Red Wings
2013 1st (Anthony Mantha)
2013 2nd (Tyler Bertuzzi)

Detroit earns some redemption with this one. To think Mantha could be a Shark.....

Anaheim Ducks
Jakob Silfverberg
Stefan Noesen
2014 1st (Nick Ritchie)
Ottawa Senators
Bobby Ryan

Silfverberg is cheaper and just as good (if not better) as Ryan, then add in Ritchie’s skill and Ryan’s contract.....

New York Islanders
2015 1st (Matthew Barzal)
2015 2nd (Mitchell Stephens)
Edmonton Oilers
Griffin Reinhart

Terribly one sided, Edmonton will never live this down. The pick that drafted Barzal actually originally belonged to Pittsburgh who sent it to Edmonton for Perron.

Toronto Maple Leafs
Olli Jokinen
Brendan Leipsic
2015 1st (Travis Konecny)
Nashville Predators
Cody Franson
Mike Santorelli
then......
Philadelphia Flyers
2015 1st (Travis Konecny)
Toronto Maple Leafs
2015 1st (Gabriel Carlsson)
2015 2nd (Jeremy Bracco)

This one isn’t aweful, but imagine if Toronto owned Konecny as well......

Arizona Coyotes
Pavel Datsyuk
2016 1st (Jacob Chychrun)
Detroit Red Wings
Joe Vitale
2016 1st (Dennis Cholowski)
2016 2nd (Filip Hronek)

And people wonder why Detroit is so bad, Chychrun and Vasilevkiy wasted!!!!

Carolina Hurricanes
Roland McKeown
2016 1st (Julien Gauthier)
Los Angeles Kings
Andrej Sekera

Makes some sense for LA, but Gauthier is going to be great for Carolina.

Just goes to show, it’s always a gamble when you trade 1st’s.

Haha, that would be past seven. This occurred during the Leafs dark ages.

They ended up trading the Carlsson pick to Columbus for the Dermott pick. Only to have Babcock play Polak and Carrick over Dermott every night, lol.

If he's not a bust, this one could be one of the worst trades over the past few years.

New York Rangers
2017 1st Round Pick (Lias Andersson)
Anthony DeAngelo

Arizona Coyotes
Annti Raanta
Derek Stepan

Also this trade is bad especially if Joseph (or the 2018 2nd) becomes good, but is very bad just by the sheer nothing that Hanzal did for Minny.

Arizona Coyotes
2017 1st Round Pick (Pierre-Oliver Joseph)
2018 2nd Round Pick
2019 4th Round Pick
Grayson Downing

Minnesota Wild
Martin Hanzal
Colin White
2017 4th Round Pick (Mason Shaw)

This one just barely didn’t make the cut. I figured that if Arizona gets good, or if Lias Andersson or Anthony Deangelo or are busts then it’s not a bad trade.

can't we push back the line a few years and make fun of Ottawa for Rundblad for Tarasenko?

Apparently the Leafs weren't interested Konecky, # 24 but Phillp Larsson. Leafs thought they could get Larsson at # 29 so they traded down with the Flyers. Ducks messed thing up by picking Larsson # 27.

So by trading down from # 24 and bypassing Larsson, then losing Larsson to the Ducks, the Leafs again traded down at # 29 to # 34. the Leafs got Dermot at # 34, and Bracco # 61, and Dziekals at # 68. RWer Dziekls s is doing great....in the ECHL, his first pro season, but doubtful NHLer. Bracco is boom or bust....high scoring winger. And Dermot, missed half a season with injury with Marlies, and was just called up this week. Even played the black hole on the Leafs on the right side defence though he shoots left. Looks like a solid NHLer in future years.

Daryl, just a note on the Arizona/Detroit. Detroit made that move in order to give the" gone to Russia" Datsyk and his 7m cap hit.

I know that about why the Datsyuk trade was made. Still Detroit fans have to ask, was it worth Chychrun?

Daryl. I thought the Wings really get cheated by having that cap hit on Datsyk. The plus 35 contract really was instituted to prevent teams front loading contracts and then having little cap in future years when the players actually retired. Datsyk was strictly a 7m,-7m, 7m contract and he opted out his final year. It not like the Wings were trying to bypass, "front load reason" of the 35 plus contract.
On a Marleau note, I really think he wants to be a Leaf for his full three years. Interesting what becomes of him and his NMC contract and his actual 1m pay in his final year.

I’m not disagreeing with you, moving Datsyuk made sense for sure. But, was it worth moving Datsyuk only to pass on Chychrun, and then falling out of contention.

Ottawa would have never drafted Tarasenko, and they turned Rundblad into Turris

And especially because they used the space to sign Nielsen.
