Ducks/Habs

Created by: Matt2406
Team: 2017-18 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2018
Published: Jan. 31, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Did one prior to this and thought about it a little more. Habs probably will hold onto Galchenyuk a little longer. Ducks give up a first, a high end C prospect (Kossila), an NHL roster player in Ritchie that gives Montreal some grit and mid 6 scoring ability. Meanwhile the Ducks solve the long problem that is LW.

"The sense I get is that unless a team steps up with the kind of package that begins with a talented young centre, or something else that the Habs can’t refuse, Pacioretty is likely staying put through this trade deadline." -Pierre LeBrun on The Athletic

It's Sam Steel or no deal.

Trading Ritchie at this point is bad asset management in my opinion. He's had a bad season so far, at least give him a chance to turn it around before moving him. His value isn't getting that much lower than it is already.

I also don't think that trading our 1st is good idea. We didn't have one at the last draft, which was fine because it was a weak draft. However, this years draft is deep and with a chance of nabbing Veleno late as a faller, I just don't think you move that 1st. We're also not a playoff team as of right now. If we were to miss the playoffs, we'd have really screwed ourselves by moving our 1st.

Fowler isn't going anywhere. You can take that dream behind the barn and shoot it with a shotgun. Personally, I'd prefer to keep Henrique than have Patches because I think we need to match NSH's C depth if we make it to the playoffs and we don't have anyone in the line-up that can replace him if he's moved. Having said that, I could see many other Duck fans saying they'd rather have Patches or Patches is the better player. However, if that's the case, then MTL probably shouldn't be trading Patches for Henrique. What does MTL want with a 28 year old 2/3 C? I think a bluechip C prospect is the way to go, but I really don't see any team giving up such a prospect.

Errrrrrr... no. Sam Steel is off the table. Good luck in your quest for a bluechip C prospect. If that is all MB is willing to move Patches for, then I'm fairly confident in saying that Patches will remain in MTL for the foreseeable future. Bluechip C prospects are gold dust, whilst a winger as expensive as Patches is more of luxury to most teams.

Ducks fans had the same opinion when Ryan was being shopped. Our return didn't have one. Not saying thats wrong to ask for. But if its better return then the other teams are offering you might see the leas than ideal return. I'm of the opinion that we can't move Steel but he is certainly a fair ask. That being said I havent reallt been following the Patches situation and potential suitors. What Center would you expect to get for Patches that makes sense? All evidence points to him being traded so which center or LD is he brining back? Im not saying he won't get a good center prospect, just curious what Habs fans actually think they'll get.

If he doesn't bring in one of Vilardi, Steel or Thomas, or some other young center prospect I'm forgetting, I'm honestly gonna be disappointed. He is the best asset we have to plug the biggest hole in our organization. If we trade him for someone who isn't a center, even if the return looks close to fair, it would be a disaster to me. It would mean being stuck in the same hole for the foreseeable future, as the only way to acquire a center would be to draft one. This draft however doesn't have a high-end center. Next on might, but by the time he is ready, Price and Weber will have started to decline and our cap situation might be messed up.

If Pacioretty isn't traded for a young centerman, might as well blow everything up and tank for 2-3 seasons.

Seems fair to me. I think most Ducks fans will say they were disappointed in the Ryan trade and we still had Getzlaf and Perry. Hope you guys get what you need. Can't see the Ducks supplying it though.
