3-way deal: Rangers, Knights and Leafs

Created by: kaljakori
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 2, 2018
Published: Feb. 2, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers fans: Before you choke me, think of this for a second: Do you want King Henrik to retire as a Ranger, or do you want to give him a shot at the cup?
Trades
1.
NYR
  1. Miller, Colin
  2. Subban, Malcolm
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (CBJ)
  4. 2019 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Subban has some questions around him, but he still looks like he could be a starter if the Rangers can be patient with him. Some could look at the amount of picks the Rangers would get from Vegas in this deal and think that's low, but you have to take Lundqvist's caphit into account.
VGK
  1. Grabner, Michael
  2. Lundqvist, Henrik ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
With Lundqvist, Vegas would have a killer goalie tandem for this year and couple more. Despite his age, King Henrik still has solid goaltending left in him. They also add a speedy winger, who can play both special teams.
2.
NYR
  1. Rychel, Kerby
  2. 2018 7th round pick (ANA)

Miller has been pretty good this season. Pointless for Vegas to trade him. Also he is RFA, making him easy to resign with.

Vegas passes. They have goal scoring wings and a Cup winning goalie. They only have two right handed defensemen, and Miller is scoring more than Shattenkirk this year. You're not getting him for anything listed here.

To get something, you have to give up something.

Rangers hang up. They don't need goalie prospects. They probably have the deepest goalie pool in the league. Grabner gets a 1st. Henrik gets a 1st a 2nd and a blue chipper. Playing Vezina quality goaltending right now. I think this makes sense if you swap Subban for Brannstrom and make the picks a 1st and 2nd. That would get the conversation going.

You're delusional to expect that return for a 35 year old Lundqvist, making $8.5M per for 3 more years, from a team who doesn't need him at all.

I agree. That's why I don't think Vegas is a good match for him. I'd expect St. Louis to be a better option, and we'd expect at least 2 of Dunn, Thompson, Thomas, Kostin, and 1sts to start.

So true. As I said, Vegas isn't getting anything in this deal, just taking on a has-been goalie and an expiring contract, so why would it give up its power play specialist defenseman???

I could see Vegas giving a top prospect for Grabner, sure, but I just don't think they consider adding Lundqvist or subtracting Miller.

Really how does Lundqvist help Vegas. And that Miller trade. Why would Vegas want to trade him this year. Rangers would. keep him, what is that trade with Leafs for a minor leaguer.
