That's all you'd get for Johnson, he's pretty useless compared to the top two defencemen I brought in. Good luck finding much for a dman turning 30 soon and term left.

I would say Kucherov has the best contract in the league right now followed by Marchand, but MacKinnon is up there

I cant see the bruins doing that. They have young guys due for raises. I think carlson gets more than 6 mil and i think with goalies failing in arizona and carolina and nyi that aaron dell could actually be in demand.

Marchand is 29 and has 7 years left at 175,000 less per year than Mackinnon. Nathan, on the other hand, is only 22 years old and is signed for 6 years. As for Kucherov, I agree, he's on the best short term value as he only has 2 years left, but if you put him up against Mackinnon in years 3-6, Kucherov's gonna be paid for his past performance, where Mackinnon will still be on his $6.3M contract. As the salary cap increases in future years, The Avs will win on the contract more and more.

johnson is worth much more than that. hes 5th in the league in TOI and plays on the PK, hes a very good shutdown D with some offensive capability. why would you trade him for an older 3rd pairing defense men and a 3rd rounder?

so as soon as a defenseman turns 30 he has no value? well in that case lets trade nemeth and a 3rd for brent burns, cause thats fair value right?

If I could spend that $6 million elsewhere (ie trade for Carlson and Karlsson), I would rather use that $6 million elsewhere. So yeah, I wouldn't wanna carry a $6 million defenceman that isn't in the upper echelon, I'd rather take back a Dman that could play on the third pair, get a draft pick in return, and reset on how to spend $6 million to help my team get better.

And sorry, when did Johnson compete for the Norris again? Im just trying to figure out the Burns comparison? Because you know, I trust you weren't just comparing them with just age right?

It's about what I think teams would actually trade for him. $6 million on a cap aint a small amount, so I'd rather get some bettter bang for that buck IF I can make the Carlson and Karlsson trades

im not comparing johnson to burns, just using your logic (and a bit of exaggeration) to prove a point

you: "Good luck finding much for a dman turning 30 soon and term left"

burns is 32 and has 8 years left. so by your logic burns has very little value

just wanted to point out that just because johnson is almost 30 doesnt mean he has no value. hes a top 2-3 defenseman on most good teams. $6 million isnt that much to ask considering that he plays 25+ minutes per game

Ya I mean who wants a guy who since the start of the 2015 season is a 1.01 P/GP player, when for $175k more you can have a guy whose a 0.83 P/GP over the same time frame....seems like a no brainer to me too
