What would the Strome - Sprong trade look like, in your opinion? In other words, which of Sheary and Sprong do you value more?

I’m with you, I’d much rather obtain A right handed shooting winger, in Sprong, which fills a need. Other than a left handed undersized forward.

given this draft has 13/31 players that are D we wouldnt want to bring any back expecially ones who stopped hitting since joining PIT

Rowney is UFA i believe but he's good depth for a secondary center and could be an upgrade on Froese as he's a better faceoff guy .
your 2nd would have to be conditional first if you win the cup otherwise we can get more from VGK with their pending UFA contracts they wont be signing transfered
as WPG and PIT are both looking at plekky seriously so removing him from the market for UFA rights and a 2nd is just logical strategy helping their odds of winning a cup the first year .

not to forget SJS has Thorton out and Friedman among others seem convinced that moving a Hansen out with a pick might be something they'd explore (moving hansen is the only way for the cap to work and he's been a bigger dissapointment then Hanzal was in MIN this means MTL would get a warm body and a 2nd in likely 2019 or 2020 )

supply vs demand is getting higher as injuries pile up
the closer to the playoffs we get the harder players play and the more value guys like plekky and richardson will have by proxy

Plekanec has 2nd round pick max value. It doesn't matter that there aren't a ton of centres on the market. You're not getting a 1st, conditional or otherwise, for a guy who has 5 goals.

Hint: OTT won’t want to retain.

Hint: You are close on that trade though wink

I am definitely more than OK with Sprong for Strome! Dont think we would be able to give him his next contract though

Hint: You are close on that trade though wink

is there any way around Brassards salary being 3.5 but cap hit being 5? I guess im asking could OTT retain still but we pay salary??

Not sure how it fits cap wise honestly. JR is after Brassard now, though. I don’t believe he gets him.

What would the Strome - Sprong trade look like, in your opinion? In other words, which of Sheary and Sprong do you value more?

IMO Sprong has more value but coaches wont play him ??? Its very strange bc they play Sheary non-stop even tho hes in a funk rite now

So its bc his contract was front loaded ? Is bc his salary is lower than his cap rite? I just wondered how it would be affected in a trade when u retain?

Plekanec has 2nd round pick max value. It doesn't matter that there aren't a ton of centres on the market. You're not getting a 1st, conditional or otherwise, for a guy who has 5 goals.

you dont understand Supply vs Demand if you think that
Hanzal in no way shape or form was worth what he got he was just the only Center avaliable

His cap hit is too high when we only have 800k in cap space. OTT won’t retain.

here is your long answer below
the short answer is yes but its EXTREMELY tricky to do .

                    CBA Article 50.5(e)(iii) said:
(iii) Prohibition on Transfers of Payroll Room. A Club may not sell, assign,
trade, transfer or otherwise hypothecate its Payroll Room (including,
without limitation, by trading a Cap Advantage Recapture charge or
obligations pursuant to a Retained Salary Transaction), provided,
however, that Clubs, in the context of Trades, may allocate between them
the Averaged Amount and related Player Salary and Bonuses payable
under the given SPC(s) associated with the Player(s) being Traded subject
                    to the following limitations:

                    (A) For the remaining term of Traded Player's SPC, the Club from
which the Player is Traded may agree to retain no more than fifty
                    (50) percent of the Averaged Amount of such SPC's remaining
term ("Retained Salary Transaction" and the particular SPC, a
"Retained Salary SPC"). In each Retained Salary Transaction, the
percentage allocation of the retained Averaged Amount cannot be
                    altered from year to year.

                    (B) Any and all Player Salary and Bonuses in a Retained Salary
Transaction (i.e., the actual amounts paid to a Player in the
remaining years of the SPC) shall be allocated between the two
Clubs participating in the Retained Salary Transaction on the same
percentage basis as the allocation of the Averaged Amount and
such percentage cannot be altered from year to year. The Player
shall be paid by the Club for whom he is playing (or most recently
played for) when such payment is due.

Illustration: Club A agrees to Trade a Player to Club B and agrees
to retain thirty (30) percent of that SPC's Averaged Amount (i.e.,
Club A's Averaged Club Salary in each of the remaining years
under that SPC shall include 30% of the Player's Averaged
Amount in each of the remaining years under that SPC). Club A
shall also be responsible for reimbursing Club B for thirty (30)
percent of the Player's Player Salary and Bonuses in each of the
                    remaining years under that SPC.

for example Weber's contract NSH agreed to take on a 1.78 m cap hit in his last 4 years if MTL for any reason decides to buy him out ,bury him or he retires
but MTL has agreed to pay the entirety of his remaining Salary to do so . (the CBA rule changes are complex and a pain in the ass )

Brassard for example can leave 1.5m cap in OTT but has to pay the salary fully
or can leave 1.5m salary in OTT and take the whole cap but the cap cannot be below the base Salary as far as i know
(30% being the maximum you can retain which is why big contracts dont often utilize this approach because at most you can ditch 3m )

I do understand supply and demand. You seem to not understand that demand is non-existent when prices are pushed above what anyone would be willing to pay.

I agree that Hanzal last year was a brutal trade, and everyone knew it at the time. Hanzal also had 16 goals at the time, along with a 1.67 P/60 (versus 1.23 for Plekanec this year). You've also brought up Plekanec's faceoff prowess (51.85%) to me on other posts trying to sell this idea that he's worth a 1st. Hanzal was at 56.02% at the time of the trade.

Just because someone did something dumb once, doesn't mean you can expect to have it happen again, especially where there was at least an argument to be made that Hanzal was a decent #2 centre. Plekanec is a borderline 3/4 centre, and that will never bring back a 1st rounder.

You're welcome to come back to me in 2 weeks with "I told you so" if someone is actually dumb enough to do that, but in reality, it's way more likely to be a 3rd than a 1st that goes back to Montreal.

                    me to budd

i bug scouts at junior games during intermissions to explain stuff like this in context
buy them a beer or slice of Pizza during a game and they'll talk about anything as long as
when the period starts you let them work and leave them be.

junior games are full of professional scouts after christmas just look in the top section by the bottom of the faceoff circles in each end
you'll usually find atleast 2-3 scouts

plekanec's DZF ''prowess '' if you are going to quote me atleast do it right
67% in DZF capable of 1400 faceoffs a year at his best and usually top 20 in draws taken by the end of the year.

DZF are a ***** for alot of players even the best faceoff centers in the NHL this is common knowledge .
Plekky is one of the best in this regard and unlike Hanzal isnt always injured , shows up every game and is a PK leader .

you dont see his value , thats fine
the world of hockey need Eklund type guys to so the rest of us dont become unappreciated.
if not for TMZ after all the News wouldnt be appreciated lol
