Can Karlsson/Ryan work?

Description
Welp.....I can get them on the team and under the cap but I think this screws up all future contracts. Karlsson will want $11mil+, Matthews will be $12mil+ and Marner will be $6mil+. That's $29 mil for 3 players....Not gonna happen.

If the sens package ryan with EK then they will retain some salary...ie phil kessel trade

This seems like a heavy short-sighted deal and there is no reason why the Leafs would sell off their future for a year and 3 months of Karlsson not to mention taking on another bad contract in Ryan when the Leafs seems relatively clean of those at the moment. This all comes before giving consideration to the fact that these teams would never make that sort of deal with one another.

This trade can only make sense for Leafs if Sens retain half or at least 3.25M of Ryan's terrible contract. Take a look at his numbers and I challenge anyone to convince me that I'm wrong.

100% AGREED....TBH I don't even want Karlsson all that badly. I'd much rather have Doughty.

With Liljegren and nylander being recent 1st round picks I find it hard for TML to give essentially 3 first round picks, JVR, 2nd, etc..
With B Ryan being in deal, your lowering EK value.

JVR > Ryan so if Toronto can’t resign JVR why would they trade him for Ryan with a worse salary (JVR would sign extension for less)

Just seeing if I could get the numbers to work without retaining and salary either way.
