Canadiens Prospects/Young Player Review/Rankings/Projections

Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 19, 2018
Published: Mar. 19, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Noah Juulsen
2. Victor Mete
3. Ryan Poehling
4. Nikita Scherbak
5. Joni Ikonen
6. Josh Brook
7. Jake Evans
8. William Bitten
9. Zach Fucale
10. Michael McNiven

Juulsen: He has potential to become a Top 2 defensemen in Montreal, he scored his first goal very quickly after making the Habs. He can take a big leadership role on a team as shown in the WHL with the Silvertips. Plays a very good two-way defensemen role for the Habs. He could be playing even better if he wasn’t on such a struggling team.

Mete: Very skilled underrated player. He has top 3 defense potential, meaning that he could play first or second line and still do extremely well. Mete is not the tallest or biggest player but he comes up and makes offensive rushes and gets into the dirty areas to help the team. His offensive rushes have made him the best defensemen on the Habs for as long as Weber is gone.

Poehling: Highest drafted player on this list and has potential to become a Derick Brassard skill player. Came out of St. Cloud State with his brothers, and did great. He may come into the NHL next year, but I believe that he should wait and develop, because the Habs are in no hurry.

Scherbak: Had a long road to his NHL debut, now a solidified roster player. He brings a potential younger Alex Galchenyuk to the Habs in his speed and hands.

Ikonen: He is a center version of Artturi Lehkonen but with twice the potential. His value skyrocketed when he was drafted. He may turn out to be the best prospect right now for the Habs. He has the right style and game, he just needs to get faster, bigger, and stronger.

Brook: Plays on one of the best junior hockey teams for defense, in Moose Jaw playing with Kale Clague and Jett Woo. Developing into a defensemen with top 4/6 defense potential.

Evans: He is tearing up the NCAA as the captain of Notre Dame. He has more than a point per game for Notre Dame. Turned out to be a 7th rounder becoming a 4th round skill player. He will most likely be a 3rd line center when he makes the NHL.

Bitten: Models his game after Brendan Gallagher, though he may not become the skill of Gallagher. Potential to be a 3rd line player.

Fucale: Still working on making the AHL but still has lots of time before he needs to be NHL ready. Potential to be a starter.

McNiven: Could become NHL ready soon, did great for Owen Sound. He has a hit or miss potential to be an NHL starter.

I would like to see some other fans of other teams make their own version of this but with their favorite team.

Our goaltending for the future concerns me a bit with Fucale and McNiven both being guys that can be really good but also really bad at times. The rest of our young core is turning out great though. Good job.

This seems pretty optimistic ... and I'm a Habs fan. Habs ranked 28th out of 31 in the Hockey News Future Watch.

Poehling is more Danault than Brassard. Ikonen has moved to doubtful, along with Vejdemo. Juulsen and Mete are fine, as are Brook and Fleury. I have liked how Lernout has rebounded from a horror show during a call up earlier in the season. Primeau is looking like a very promising young goalie. Time will tell.

Amenez les enfants, laissez-les jouer! Le mouvement de la jeunesse est sur nous dans le LNH! Price et Weber ne rajeunissent pas, c'est le moment!

Good job. Cool concept.

But uh.. Fucale is a bust. McNiven, Primeau and Hawkey are all better prospects that him. If they are smart they try and trade him as an RFA and hope nobody noticed how bad he actually is.
