So Ottawa probably says no but Carolina might bite. Idk if they really want to move Faulk and honestly they probably could get a better package for him. Riley nash is a good fit but with his year and ability to play top 6 minutes and yes I know his wings carried him alot he probably get 4x4 from some desperate team. Ufa centers are very slim this year. Sign evander Kane not jvr , better fit.

For a one year rental, Ottawa would be nuts to say no. Otttawa is nowhere close to competing so Douchene for 1 year isn’t anything to them. He’s a UFA. In return they get a RFA in Schmaltz and two D guys which they desperately need. Plus a pick.

That's way too much for Faulk and Duchene...

I mean there is a very good chance that Schmaltz will be just as good as Duchene next year.... Schmaltz is a stud. There is no way I make that deal - not even with a gun to my head, lol. I mean the Hawks don't even need Duchene.

I like Faulk but I don't like him that much....

Anisimov and Murphy (or Forsling) for Faulk would me more than fair.. Heck, I would take Kruger or Darling back too in the deal.

But yea, Schmaltz is going to be a stud, he's the next Jason Spezza. He was a steal at 20th overall.

Not even close, lol.

IMO, Schmaltz is going to be better... Schmaltz has 50 points in 75 games this season, Duchene has 57 in 79 games. Duchene is 27, Schmaltz is 22.

One would think Schmaltz for Duchene straight up would favor the Ottawa.

I wouldn't trade Schmaltz - I think he's going to be a 70 point player once he hits his prime.

Duchene will extend in Ottawa this year. Also, Schmaltz has one of the best wingers in the game helping create offence for him. Duchene does the creating. For those saying they wouldn't trade Schmaltz straight up for Duchene are crazy. He's a good player but Duchene is and will be far more superior for the next 5-7 years.

Duchene wants a cup, and he's got 3 to 4 years left before he's on the wrong side of his career and performance starts dropping. I agree Duchene is the better player now, but Schmaltz along with 2 starting D guys and a pick is a ton to give up for a UFA. Duchene will go to free agency OR Otawwa will pay through the nose for him; likely $8M a year or more minimum on a 5 to 7 year contract. That's a lot of juice for a team trying to rebuild and needs D guys.

I have to be honest, your assessment of Schmaltz is off. Will he be good, yes, will he be great, no, you are listening to much to Chicago news. He's definitely going to be a top 50 player but he's not Duchene and doubt he ever will be. Duchene when he was Schmaltz's age showed a lot more and played on a bad team. Schmaltz is playing next to one of the best wingers in the game. Shmaltz is never going to be a 70 point consistent player and his faceoffs are horrible.

The same thing with Saad you've made in other comments. You are listening to too much Chicago news. He is not a top winger, he's good and had a down year and agree he is a 50 point player, but he's never going to be great, he's simply too slow and doesn't win the battles he should with his size. Someone like JVR is a way better option on the LW. If the Hawks can dump Saad and use the money towards JVR they would be a better team for it.

He'll sign a 7x7.5 this summer along with Stone. Book it.

He was a 2 year rental to play for a team that was supposed to compete. Ottawa is too far away from competing so I'm betting it's at least a $7.5M for 7 years to get him to stay....at least. But if a team with big revenue and ready to compete hints they are open to signing him for the same deal, I bet he would take it.

Listen bud, Duchene has CLEARLY stated that he wants to stay in Ottawa regardless of what the plan is( Retool, Rebuild, Stay put). So yes, Duchene preferably wants to stay in Ottawa. Also, you can't compare Schmaltz to Duchene. You have to look further than points. Duchene is very dynamic and is one of the best playmakers in the game. Also, Duchene had a very rough first 20 games in Ottawa. Since that time, he's basically been scoring at a point/game pace. I mean Schamltz is a good player but nowhere near the level of Duchene.

Listen there 'guy', this is a business and a player like duchene has way too much talent to give some big hometown discount. Like I said, it will take 7 years and $7.5M to stay at a minimum or he can get $8M and 5 or 6 years and play for a cup.

I'm not arguing Duchene is better then Schmaltz and never have.

My assessment is accurate.

He already had 50 points this season and Schmaltz is nowhere near close to fully developed.

I expect Jason Spezza production out of him in a few years, and I have no doubts that (if healthy) will put up at least 65 points next season.

Jason Spezza is a really good comparable..

Spezza put up 55 points in 78 games his sophomore season, Schmaltz is in his and he has 50 in 75... Spezza was 2 years younger but I don't know how much that really means when you're 20-22...

Schmaltz is going to be a really good player - close to a PPG player. He was a steal at 20th overall.

We'll have to see tho.

The Hawks got steals in Schmaltz & DeBrincat... DeBrincat will be another stud. I see him being a perennial 40 goal scorer.

It's pretty crazy, despite the Hawks having late first round picks they seem to walk away with studs in the first or second round just about every year.

I can see Shmaltz a 50+ point player per season but definitely not a PPG player. He's playing alongside the best in the game, that contributes a ton to his production. Duchene was a better player when he came into the league and definitely is now. Cat is even more exciting to me then Schmaltz. Cat is a Kane and Schmaltz is a Toews.

Schmaltz will be a 60-70 point player most of his career. Schmaltz has not been with Kane the entire year, maybe half. Also this is his first year playing center.
Schmaltz entered the league too early and underdeveloped last year simply because the Hawks needed him and didn't have any other options. Watching him the last 2 years and even this year you can see he is still developing.

I'm not saying he's better than Duchene right now but to say you wouldn't trade a 27 year old Duchene for a 22 year old Schmaltz seems odd. I'd take Schmaltz over Duchene if it were up to me.

You must not know anything about Schmaltz nor have seen him play. 58 points for Duchene in 80 games while Schmaltz has 51 in 76 games. Not to mention Schmaltz is only 22 years old. Sure Schmaltz has played with Kane but Kane has had a down year, too. Hasn't Duchene been playing with Hoffman and/or Stone? Pretty damn good wingers there too. No Hawks fan would ever trade Schmaltz straight up for Duchene. Ottawa fans are just sad because they got absolutely fleeced on the Duchene deal.

He's played with Hoffman but he drives that line. Duchene had a rough start in Ottawa adjusting (6 points in his first 24 games) since then he is literally 1.00PPG. Take Kane away from Schmaltz and his production will decrease. Hoffman did nothing while duchene had that bad start and his number picked up a lot when Duchesne started playing better.

Schmaltz is a very good young player, but to say that "no hawks fan" would ever trade him straight up for Duchene is insanity. Duchene is only 4 years older too.

4 years older and overpaid. Why would the Hawks trade for a comparable, older, more expensive player? Schmaltz has played without Kane and still been able to carry a line. Schmaltz has value because he's cost controlled for the next 5 years.

Cost controlled? If he's as good as you're saying he is, he'll be making just as much as Duchene after next year. Or he'll get offer sheeted. He's not on Duchene's level.

I watched every single Hawks game this year besides 5 games. Duchene is way more dynamic, he makes those around him better much like Kane does. Schmaltz is a product of Kane being that good which makes Schamltz good but not great. Look at the faceoffs alone, Duchene is in a league of his own. More importantly, Seabs, Keith, Toews, Kane and Crawford have about 2 maybe 3 seasons before the door is completely shut, Duchene can deliver now at a level Schmaltz won't for another few years if he continues to develop so that value along makes Duchene a great trade.

"Panarin is a product of Kane being that good"
We've heard this before. Schmaltz isn't Panarin or Kane but again he has only played with Kane like half the year. Schmaltz is worth keeping over Duchene especially if it costs you two other assests and a 3rd. Its just an asinine trade for the Hawks. And don't get me started on faceoffs. Winning 1-2 faceoffs more per game isn't a game changer.

Panarin was and is more dynamic then Schmaltz. Again, I'm not saying Schmaltz is bad but he's a B+ player maybe a A- in the future. Duchene is a A player, not an A+ like Kane but not far behind. As to faceoffs, Duchene is over 52% this year and his career, Schmaltz isn't even at 40% ever.
