If that 2018 1st isnt Dahlin (overpayment), I’ll take it! U get 4 young players with diverse positions (2D, 1C, and 1R), and to finish off the value, a 2018 1st (high pick 2-5). I could see the Sabres accepting that (unless they would want veterans in return).

The only question is: Would ROR and Risto really go to a team in this condition right now?

Would they go to detroit instead of being in buffalo. Whats the difference really. Technically detroits a better team if you look at the points. I like risto but i dont want oreilly. Detroit need to keep loosing and peel off the terrible contracts best they can. Moving AA and Mantha and a top 6 pick just doesn't make sense for them.

Sabres would easily ask for Larkin instead of mantha and the other two with contracts. Risto is very valuable right now and ror is too, even though we might have our second line center because depth is key. Maybe even take out the first. But if I'm the sabres and you want this package, I'm asking for Larkin right off the bat.

Exactly. This doesnt make sense for anyone except Buffalo.
Buffalo gets Detroit’s young players they need, so their happy, but ROR and Risto would leave to go to a better team for them. They wouldnt leave for lateral results. And Detroit doesnt need this because these young players need to replace the old guys that are going to leave.

There seems to be a wide different of opinion here among Sabre fans. Let's presume O'Reilly and Ristolainen will return a young roster player, a pick and a prospect (the typical return for very good players). Now let's presume the 1st is the 5th over all. The 5th over all is worth 2 18th over all picks so I will separate that and call it 2 18th over all pics. So O'Reilly = Cholowski, Mantha and 18th over all. Ristolainen = Jensen, Athanasiou and 18th over all. So it is not a particularly great deal but it is a fair deal based on this breakdown. On the other hand, since this is a great draft maybe as good as 2003 and that 5th pick could be an all star as good as Ristolainen (there could be as many as 15 defense-men drafted in the 1st round this year). So I completely agree with you, make this trade. The 5th will very likely return a really good Defense-man, Cholowski is looking like a good prospect and Athanasiou and Mantha would make up 2/3 of a really good young line. BTW to all of the nay sayers, Mantha has more goals than O'Reilly. So Mantha's offense = O'Reilly, 1st could be another Ristolainen and the Sabres get Athanasiou, Cholowski and Jensen. Wow 2019 is looking really good with this line up. I am going to steal this trade and presume the Sabres can draft Evan Bouchard.

they are both already signed long term for five and six years. And neither guy has a NTC and Rasmus Ristolainen is only 23. The Wings really need a top dman and he will give them one. It would also free up cap room for them to sign another top dman. But it depends on where they will draft this year if I include the 1st. top 3 not including it and will put in the late 1st we got. Top 5 I might do the same if Bouchard falls to us. So it might happen during the draft. Cus if I can take either Rasmus Dahlin, Andrei Svechnikov, Filip Zadina, Brady Tkachuk or Evan Bouchard then I keep the pick and draft one of those guys.

as a sabres fan, i would do that trade. o'reilly is really good. ristolainen is a #4D that has to play top minutes. it clears out cap space to make a serious run at tavares and gives us more ammo for a karlsson trade. i'm a big fan of mantha, especially with guys like eichel and mittelstadt. AA is a left winger who can create his own offense, which is exactly what we need.
