Whaaat you guys are crazy, it's a deal for me.

We get rid of Weber's contract before we can't get anything worth something decent.
Kadri would be our no.1 center for many years!

Weber will be bought out next round of complemence buyouts by Habs. They say yes to this deal and get something for him while he has value

Go ahead a bridge Nylander and in 3 years you know you will not have money to match an offer and he is gone for picks.

As a leafs fan I'm keeping Kadri. He's got such a good contract and Weber's signed till he's 40. He'll also start to decline, and if we're going to give up a core piece for a solid right D-man, I'd like him to be closer to our average age.

Leafs will have more money in 3 years then they will in 2. With Horton and Marleau contracts up that's 11 mill off the books for good. Then you give Nylander his 8x7 deal.

You have under 12 million left after this year and you have to pay Kapanan, Matthews and Marner. You also are predicting the cap to continue to go up. That could be a mistake with the CBA UP IN 2020.

Kadri is a core piece? Lol if think that would be Reilly, Mathews, Marner and Gibson. Everyone else is expendable. Weber’s contract shouldn’t actually be a factor, it’s cap hit is significant but he will have a low salary and if he does retire then Nashville pays him, so really his biggest negative is the 7.8 cap hit but with the cap going up I don’t see it as an issue for a lot of teams.

His contract is a tough pill for any team to take on that isn't trying to get to the floor. And let's face it, it's rebuild time in Montreal, I doubt you could get much more in a deal.

He's not worth 6M now and rather than have him under control for only 8 years, this gives them the option of 11 years. Hainsey, Martin, Horton, and Marleau are all off the cap plus it may go up another 5M+.

Weber wouldn't be my first choice but Babcock loves him and he brings everything that Hainsey and Polak are said to have but don't.

Leafs have only two NHL centres under contract next year. Matthews and Kadri. So the Leafs just can't trade Kadri and then try to scrounge to find a 30 goal scoring centre. And no matter how you could it, Weber's contract is a detriment to any trade.
Can't Montreal find any other teams besides the Leafs (in 90%) of all Weber trades. Apparently not. It's Leafs or nobody.
Subbanator. Don't know why you diss the value of Kadri. Good teams have more than four core pieces (and who is Gibson). PS, Subban is no longer a core of Montreal, time for a name change
Mikearky: Why are you being so uninformed about bridge deals. It is quite possible the Nylander doesn't want a long term deal. So a bridge deal might very well be what the Nylander wants....and maybe even the Leafs.

The first thought is always that one of the big 3 have to go in a trade for a top pairing dman. Kadri is the more logical choice and while a Kadri for Weber swap may not be that logical, it may be the best they can do to immediately improved blue line without overpaying in free agency.

Adding Stastny makes the team better defensively and at 5 on 5 so the reality is that Kadri is upgraded as well as the blue line.

Don't forget Gardiner. He either needs a new deal or his cap space is available along with Hainsey. Throw Martin in the mix and there is another 9.5M in cap space.

In this idea, the Kadri trade is just part of the bigger picture. If the Leafs can't improve up the middle in free agency, they're stuck with Kadri. And despite everyone's best efforts to paint him as a defensive centre, he isn't one. He is a good player and in a trade for D help, someone has to go.

But that's just the issue. Making lateral trades talent for talent doesn't really improve the Leafs are any team. There are other ways to improve the Leafs defensively, but maybe not in 2018/19.

If the Leafs land a centre that is better than Kadri, his production and minutes will most likely decline. His value is currently at its peak and while a lateral move, on its own, may not help the team, if he gets pushed down the depth chart and there is an adequate replacement available, it would help the team.

Any centre that plays better in their own end than Bozak and Kadri, helps the team immensely. Same goes for any D better than Polak, Hainsey, etc etc.

Even moving Nylander to the middle would be a significant improvement. Everyone assumes the backend is the only problem but the reality is that our weakness up the middle is of equal concern.

IMO, Nylander can be good NHL centre. And on the PP he could play centre and wing. So I'm hoping the Leafs have told Nylander this April. You're playing centre this October....be ready, If Nylander knows he can work on faceoffs and defensive positioning all summer. I'd take Matthews, Nylander and Kadri any time at centre. And you need at least three offensive guys cause players do get injured. Aaltonen seems to earned a spot at centre too. The Leafs tend to go with balanced lines, so the three centres will usually work a digger and offensive player, so I'm not concerned with their line mates as much as I am concerned about Babcock's poor on ice management on game day.
Your comment on Gardiner....I can't see him being Leaf for more than a year. Leafs might need him all this season, but Reilly, Dermot, and Borgman (maybe some one else) better be NHL good in 2019/20.
