Gonna trade Schmaltz after the season then cos there's no way you'd have the room to sign him.

Nope...would have $12M in available cap next season assuming cap is $81M next season.

Yea, and 8 forwards under contract. And 5 defensemen. He's not the only one needed.

It will be a squeeze but Schmaltz will stay. We have Jokiharju and Ian Mitchel both on ELC's will come up on D so taken care of there. The wild card is Sikura and what's his worth?

How do you really feel? And did you forget the 3 1st rounders, a 2nd and 3rd plus Murphy?

Whole bunch of lottery tickets for 2 of the Sabres best players. Nothing to replace them. Murphy is alright, he's not replacing Risto. The Sabres are just adding more holes to their roster this year in hopes that more than 2 of those draft picks work out (probably none that would make an impact next year)

They are likely dumping ROR is the rumor so consider him gone. I get Risto is a hit, but Murphy can plug that hole while they pick up Dahlin and another D guy...the draft is deep with defense...can you imagine if Buf got Dahlin and Quin Hughes? Those two would be lights out for the next 15 years.

Its a rumor, and hes far from considered gone. Even so they could get a much better return that helps them immediately. Sabres do not need to sell ROR.

That's not the point. It depends what the overall objective is. Some say Buf wants draft picks and to get ready to make a serious run in a 2 to 3 years. If so, ROR goes and likely anyone over the age of 25 as long as they can get back 1st and 2nd round picks.

Not sure if this is necessary for Buffalo now, I understand that the chance trade ROR is pretty high, but what about Risto? He's from the same age group as the main core team, if we're trading Risto, then it should be for the same strong player, perhaps to a different position.

Some say wrong, the actual GM of the team said he wants to compete this year

Five stars for wanting O'Reilly
I try to will break the trades down
O'Reilly, R for 2018 1st round pick (CHI) 2018 1st round pick (NSH) and 2018 2nd round pick (CHI), this is way more then DATM gave up to get O'Reilly
Ristolainen, R for Duclair, A., Murphy, C., 2019 1st round pick (CHI) and 2018 3rd round pick (CHI), this is more than the typical return for player as Ristolainen
Duclair was on his way to another 20 goal season in Arizona before being traded to Chicago
Murphy will not make any one forget Ristolainen but he is a solid RHD
I would make this deal then try to sign free agents John Carlson and Derek Ryan would be at the top of the list. With 5 picks among the top 38 would certainly give Botterill a chance to rebuild the prospect pool

Or you free up money and picks to go after the target of choice?

The problem is I don't know our GM's plans. What he wants to get from trading, futures or equivalent players, or both, so one can only guess.

Agreed so this is just playing out one scenario where he would have plenty of money to go after a JT type of player and picks to trade to acquire assets. Or move up in the draft to grab Hughes then you have Dahlin and Hughes and Buf is set for their 1st line D for the next 15 years.

See Stan, you didn't react on Hoffman but I did in Florida. I gave you a whisper last night and told you to get Hoffman....now I have him and will whip him (and his girlfriend if need be) into shape.
